272 rebuild issues/problems

I just rebuilt my 272 y-block and now I'm having problems getting it to run. It starts but runs like crap #3,5,8 cylinders do not fire every time. I have check the timing about 5 times and it's spot...

Thanks, I have not block it. I'm running 292 with 3X2 I rejected the primary carb from 52 to 55 and the two secondary to 48 and that seems to fixed it.

What causes the carburetor to ice up. I have a Ford Holly 2 barrel (2110) and after about 1 min the carb will start to frost over. Anyone know what causes this?

Ignition coil resistor?

Can anyone tell me what the ignition coil resistor is used for? When I connect it as the wiring diagram indicates it get very hot and start smoking.
