Well everybody's got their opinions. My "philosophy" is why try to make it something it never was, and never will be? If I want comfort and modern convenience and AC, well I'll drive my new truck....

First things first - vacuum advance will not cause any problems related to acceleration from a dead stop. Notice racing engines don't even have vacuum advance, and they do pretty well off the line....

Another thing to look at "truck sits a lot" and especially if outside, corrosion of electrical connections are something that always need servicing but particularly in the older rigs. Not saying this...

If spark is at plugs, the Pertronix should be OK. Is it a good spark though - nice fat, bluish white, with a snap to it? A weak spark would prevent starting.

It is strange that the timing appears...

That struck me too at first. Electronics were in transition by then, though, so pc boards weren't exactly exotic. It does look out of place somehow in a 60s pickup? Probably prone to the traces...

One thing - It pays to give the hood latch mechanism and safety catch some clean and lube, and maybe straightening out and alignment, if required. Too many FTE slick owners...
