The wormgear on the steering shaft inside the box...

The wormgear on the steering shaft inside the box is a weak spot, if it is original that might be the cause. Small metalparts can come of and jam it.

Ok I am not familiar with the 50 steerinbox just the 53-56. But if you disconnect the pitman arm and turn the steering wheel to the stop (right) and then turn it to the stop (left) and then back down...
