Aftermarket fuel pressure gauges are not very accurate. A high quality mechanic's oil pressure gauge may give you a truer reading. The pressure senders go bad on the aftermarket gauges.

40 psi at WOT doesn't sound that off to me. The pump could be getting weak. If pressure continues to drop, it could be the pump. These pumps have about 50-75,000 miles in them, in my experience.

I got 35,000 miles out of that pump. For $40, it worked fine and i can keep a spare in the glove box.
