Well, brand-new battery, yes, but what's the voltage read at the battery terminals? Just wondering if something is drawing down the battery enough to do this.

How's the overall voltage at the battery when this happens? Light dim? Could just be running the battery down to the point where the Duraspark has a problem (if it is Duraspark, or points?)

Very true. A 428 crank and a 360/390 block makes for a nice package.

The 427 is a big bore engine. (4.232x3.784 in) To put bores that big in an FE block, it becomes almost a throw-away.

The FRONT pinion bearing is under load when decelerating.

However, the LEFT diff bearing is under load...

Broken exhaust manifold studs? If it's sucking air in, and yes, it can actually suck air into the exhaust under load, it'll throw the air-fuel ratio off according to the O2 sensor, and run way rich...
