Gary, there is no pocket on the diesel bezel, the plate is molded into the bezel. I would make your original plan, I think it would look better.

Another option if the truck has the 5x4.5 pattern is that Explorer, Ranger, or Jeep wheels could be used.

Not to mention they hold up just as good as the later frames for hauling weight in the bed or towing.

If the truck is in good shape, go ahead and take a serious look at it.

I have both A-pillars (84) in red if you wanted to save yourself some work. For repainting interior parts, find some SEM paint, it bonds very well to plastic.

80-86 directly fit. BUT, 80-82 had a metal strap, similar to the 70's trucks, and 83-86 has a modern cable.

If youre so inclined, any tailgate up to 96/7 will fit with modification.
