I believe the system is 'confusing' because there are extra relays to control the trailer functions as well. This so you don't get the super fast blink with a trailer connected like in gm vehicles.....

The axle and gears should be fine, I would expect the brake parts won't fit,

My 15 qt train pan spills if i don't stop and drain halfway.
I have done the last few changes by holding an empty gallon jug...
