After expensive and qualitative tuning of salon of this van, the power steering reducer has begun to flow. Trip to service...kind masters with phrase "All is ready!"...way home, speed ~65 mph, road turn, steering wheel turns separately from wheels...braking, flight in a deep ditch, falling on the roof and sliding between birches and pines (snow Russian winter). It was found out, the master has forgotten to fix the screw of a steering shaft...:-X09:-X09:-X09 Why nobody has suffered - I don`t know itself ... http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816939.jpg The salon has been disassembled, little work with a gas torch http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816940.jpg The frame is a little rusty ;) http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816941.jpg Preparation for dismantling and clearing of a rust http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816942.jpg The frame looks as new :-down http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816944.jpg At geological prospecting station has bought a cabin from polar chisel station on the basis of the Soviet military truck Zil 131. The car all life worked on a pole since 1976 year http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816945.jpg After change of the bottom and cabin power structure http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816946.jpg In zil so difficult to sit (especially with my growth), but I should go for a drive on it on a long distance... As a result the pedal knot has transferred forward on 15 sm, it became easier to sit. Much more! http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816947.jpg Sometimes I wanted to commit suicide ;-))) http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816949.jpg In comparison with our "Tchaika" )) http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816950.jpg The exhaust system is simple as 5 cents. Two pipes in diameter 63mm pass in the muffler 3 inches diameter, all stainless steel http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816951.jpg http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816952.jpg Thanks for a bumper, daddy!!! :-wink http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816953.jpg http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816955.jpg http://drbroman.users.photofile.ru/p...e/90816956.jpg That`s all for today. Work proceeds, in plans engine tuning with help of Lysholm 2300 supercharger and others... Zil 130 R/T length 5.75 meters width 2.2 meters height 2.0 meter Thanks for attention =) P.S. Some words about ZIL 130. Zil 130 was a soviet track from early 60s. At time of creation of its design the Soviet designers were guided by Ford Pickups =) From Russia with love =) |

Welcome to the forum! That is definitely an interesting project. The ZIL cab does have resemblence to a 56 Ford truck, while the front sheetmetal looks to be similar to a Dodge truck.
I, myself, hail from Odessa, Ukraine. |

Zil Trucks
Looking at the pics I can see Ford, Dodge , Studebaker , and IH styling influences. I would be interested to see what the origional engine looked like. Looks like a interesting project , more pictures please!!

I saw a bunch of those in Afganastan and Pakistan in the mid-1980's

That, my friend is wild. To see such large trucks taking flight. Thanks for sharing those interesting photos and videos. I can see the resemblence of the ford but like others have mentioned I can also see the resemblence of the others as well. Please keep us posted as it's a very cool project.
|
Afghanistan has lots of them still; as mentioned above the cab is very similiar to Ford's 56 F-100. When I saw them I thought they were modified Fords.

The Russians had a knack for copying American vehicles. My dad was a mechanic in Russia. When he came over here, he was working on older Mustangs and Falcons. He told me that their drive train (from the 60s) is similar to the drivetrain in the Volgas of the 70s and 80s.
Also, the older Chaika's have a resemblence to mid-50s Packards. Chaika http://www.limospb.ru/foto2/chaika_b.jpg 56 Packard http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/...-hundred-1.jpg |
Thanks and welcome. Great pics, I love that snow racing shot. My grandparents are from Russia, it's wonderful to see that project taking shape. Hot Rods from Russia, I love it!! Keep us up on the progress.:-wink
