How is the Flex holding up?
I am going vehicle shopping with my Mom tomorrow, her lease is up on her '06 Explorer E.B. and she doesn't like it and wants something new.
The new explorers are not what the '06 and olders were, so I don't think that is the route to go. (She has had a '91, '98, '02 and the current '06) She hauls some stuff (the dogs, cargo etc) so the Flex would be good size wise. Doesn't tow anything. Her hips bother her at times, so I think it will be easier for her to get into the Flex than something as high as her current Explorer. So my question is this, how are the Flex's as far as reliability and dependability? Do they have any major issues? I haven't been able to find anything major online so far. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks, Andrew |
I purchased a used 09 Flex for the wife. She loves it. Our two kids and dogs do too. There is a ton of room. We have had two issues with our in the 8000 miles we have had it. First there was an engine oil leak and then a transmission cooler line had a leak. These didn't make me happy, but I am taking them as a fluke. I like it so far.

07 Edge bought used couple years ago and has been trouble free. wifes car, but for some rreason I liked the 99 explorer better than the Edge when first purchased(both bought used). I think it's the visibility.

Have an 09 flex wife loves the car, really likes the seat warmers for her little butt, no issues tons of power and lots of room for the kids (3), we also had our first snow up here in the NW and the all wheel traction control works wonders

2009 Flex with 76,000 miles. Routine maintenance & rear brakes - no problems with anything else. 2 kids & 2 great Danes ride real nice in it. Been a great car.

I bought a new 09 in late 08. Currently has 45k on her. Had a early model. The only thing I complain about is it seems hard on tires. But its a great ride. Like riding in a limo. No warranty work done on it. Been rock solid

Ours has 80,000 km or so on it and all I have done is synthetic oil changes and rear brakes! Front brakes are due about now, maybe a new drive belt but totally trouble free machine.
Mrs. plans on a Ford for the next one too, it's another reason I got my 150. |
High Milage
We just bought a Flex, private sale, one owner w/ 98k miles on it. (2009). PO was buying a 2013 to replace it. All service was done at the dealer with the water pump being the most major repair. It rides and drives identical to one we test drive with 28k miles on it.

Wife has 2012.. She loves it. Alot of room.. So far so good..

The wife bought a 2009 Flex in Oct.08. It now has 60000 miles on it. No problems with regular mtce. Original Goodyear Assurance tires. Get 23 MPG on her 30 mile round trips everyday. On vacation, it can get up to 27 MPG. Will probably have to do a brake job and replace tires at the end of the year.

Have 2010 flex. Love it,bought used with 10k, now 30k. Rock solid, tons of room, 22-23 mpg all around driving. Oil changes , gas , drive!!! Highly recommend flex.

We traded our '09 Flex for a '12 Flex a couple months back. The '09 had about 40,000 miles and was trouble free. We bought it new form a local dealer in late '09.
Plenty of room, especially in the mid and rear seats. I am 6'6" and am very comfortable in the mid row seats, even for long trips. We had a '97 Expedition before the '09. The Flex has more useable room than the Expy, in my opinion. The power and response of the 3.5 V6 was amazing (non EB). We typically got 17-18 mpg in town and 22-24 on the road. No complaints with either Flex. Roger Carter |
