ambulance brake lights....blink..blink..ON

I have seen this before but always forgot to ask until today when I was driving home.
I was behind a ambulance and was watching the brake lights come on and from what I can figure when the driver hits the brakes the brake lights flash 2 times very quickly then illuminates fully and holds.
Is this a relay of some sort or what? Where can I find one? Where would I install it? Has anyone seen this before? Am I crazy? Oh, while I am asking all these questions, Who put the Dip in the Dip DeDip DeDip? Who put the Ram in the........?
Thanks!

You may not be crazy, I just haven't ever noticed it. Out here in the sticks I don't see many ambulances rolling down the road.

I've seen it, have to wonder if it's legal though. I think I'd like it if it wouldn't attract tax collectors.

chicagodragon 09-29-2010 09:23 PM

i dont see how it could be illegal

Some interesting results on teh google. Seems marketed to bikers mostly, but I can't say I've ever seen any on a bike. I still have to wonder about legality, but that's just me, I hate giving them on a silver platter an excuse to pull me over.

i know what your talkin about cope but im not sure what causes it.....they did it on our rig at the firehouse back home in NY....but they were LED's not regular lightbulbs. and i believe it has to do with a powersupply that feeds the brakes that causes them to do that but as far as it being illegal i doubt it

triskadek 09-29-2010 09:54 PM

Some biker forum had an article with someone claiming it was illegal in NC to have blinking brake lights on a trailer...

Our firetrucks at work have them but they are just part of our DOT led lighting package.
