Brake warning light on
 

my brake warning light is on and stays lit on my dash.
here is what i did. i topped up the brake fluid that didn't fix it.
i pulled the switch from the level sensor and the master cylinder, started it up and light went away.
as soon as i plug it back on light goes on again. has onyone dealt with this before?

is it just a faulty switch?
does anyone know what the cost is to raplace it or can i do it myself?

Is it the Brake warning light or the ABS light?

Sounds like a bad (or stuck) switch, but it could be anything within that circuit.

I know it sounds way to simple - if the brake system seems to be working correctly - make sure the e brake pedal is fully disengaged and check the e brake switch.

well its not the ABS its just the brake light.
is the switch at the fluid level running on the same circuit as the e-brake?
like i said when i unplug it at the master cylinder where you would top the fluid up the light goes out.

perhaps i sohuld take it to the stealership.

It was just a theory, so I went out and tried to recreate the problem on my "04. Well, the theory was wrong. I did a little research and all I could come up with was a potential wiring malfunction. There is alot of similar problems out there on other forums. I will continue to try to find a possible solution. Post up if you beat me to it.

After looking at the schematics, I would suggest that - either the tan/green or the green/yellow wire - is grounded out at some point between the connector (at the reservoir) and the instrument cluster. Do you have the capability of testing for continuety?

There is a "float switch" in the brake fluid resirvoir. Sometimes these stick in the "low" position,and will give that indication.My suggestion is to remove about half the brake fluid in the resirvoir,and expose the float(looks like a small donut i beleive) anyway find something to push it down,and then pull it up with GENTLY(repeat if necessary). Once it appears that its moving freely,replace the fluid to its top level,and check the light.
DONT push the brake pedal while the fluid is low..this could introduce air into the system,and that requires bleeding.:-X25
