Where should my horn relay be?
 

Someone at some point decided my '79 F-250 4x4 (351M, NP435, NP205) didn't need several niceties like windshield washer and horn. Now the WS washer, I can figure out - wiring is still there, and the holes are still on the inner fender.
The horn is another matter. I have a horn mounted on the radiator support, and no wiring leading anywhere near it. I gather a yellow wire with a green stripe should appear out of one of the harnesses somewhere, go to a horn relay, and then to the horn, but I don't have a horn relay either, from what I can tell.

Can someone with a horn either give me a good description of where the relay goes, or better yet, post a pic of where it sits?

Should be mounted just up from the starter solenoid on the passenger inner fender.

Do you have speed control ?

If so the horn relay is mounted to the dash support bracket behind the instrument cluster

77 was the last year for horn relays under the hood.

Cool, thanks! That also tells me what to look for in the wiring to hook up to it. Why you'd remove that - or the washer reservoir - I have no idea.

Hmm. Nope, no speed control. I wonder if the relay is up under the dash, in which case, I just need to figure out how to get some wires from it to the horn.

Texascrash posted a picture of the relay above and its right where Bullit390 said it was- on the inner fender.

The OP has a 1979 F250 without Speed Control.

1978/79 F100/350's, Bronco's & Econolines without Speed Control do not have a horn relay.

1978/79: With Speed Control, the horn relay mounts to the Speed Control's amplifier which is mounted under the dash adjacent to the fuse box.

Right but the OP says he does not have speed control.
But my 1977 has the relay under the hood just like the above pic.

Since the OP's '79 does not Speed Control, his truck does not have a horn relay.

bloodspoint: Since you live in Cincinnati OH, suggest you visit obsolete parts vendor Green Sales Company (2120 Seymour Avenue / 513-731-3304), who has all the parts catalogs. You can ask them where the horn relay is located.

They will give you the same info I just did. There is no horn relay on 1978/79's without Speed Control.

Green Sales (greensalescompany.com) has the largest stock of FoMoCo obsolete parts on the planet.

Thanks. Yeah, Green Sales has been very helpful before with my Galaxie, and they've got stuff _nobody_ else has.
Okay, so I'm back to no needing a relay, but I still need to locate the wiring. I'll talk to those guys if I can't find it on my own. If it's part of a harness, chances are it's still rolling around in there somewhere.

BTW, while we're on horns, what was Ford thinking putting that one single little wimpy horn on a big ol' Ford truck? Last one I had, I pulled a set of horns I found in a Grand Marquis, and that sounded much better.
I need to figure out how to get juice to it first, but then I think I'm shopping for a better sounding horn.

Yes yours is 77 not a 78 or 79

In 78 -79 trucks w/o speed control DON'T have horn relays.and that is why the horns are so weak.
