Who's going to order a 5.0 in the New F150?
 

As title says, Who's thinking of ordering the new 5.0 in the F150? I think it will be a solid choice for the F150's. Curious to know some others thoughts.

Well I had my hopes up for the 6.2 in a 157" WB Supercrew. Since it's not going to be available, I may be considering the 5.0 if I switch back to a 150. I'd love to have the 6.2 but I don't think I can live with the 5.5 foot bed.

The new 5.0 engine is truly an engineering marvel. However, I wonder if it's really appropriate for a heavy vehicle, such as a full size truck? All its power is made at higher engine speeds, where you really want low end grunt in a truck. Are they going to come with really low rear end ratios?

My plan is to get a 2011 F-150 XLT 4x4 with the 5.0L. I'll find something on the lot or make the dealer find me one. I think the 5.0L will be one hell of an engine.

My thoughts exactly too. I cant wait to drive one. I am thinking a base model for us cough cough xl or stx std cab short bed 2wd. :)

Yeah the 5.0L is looking more and more like it will be under the hood of my next truck. I was really hoping that I would be able to get a F-150 FX4 ext cab 6.5 foot bed with the 6.2L but it looks like that's not going to happen right now. And I'm not ready to accept a V6 (Twin Turbo or not) in a fullsize truck So that leave's the 5.0L. Initially I was a little worried about its peak HP and TQ numbers. But Ive been comforted in learning that the new 5.0L is going to have a very broad and flat torque curve. So even if its peak numbers seem kind of high it'll still make plenty of low end grunt. And unlike the current 5.4L it'll have the high end giddy up to match its low end grunt.

The more I research the 5.0 the more I like it. I don't really need to tow 11,300 pounds, just an open trailer and mustang...probably in the 5k range.

Plus, with the 5.0 in the Mustang, the aftermarket will really open up a few years down the road.

Just FWIW and conversation sakes, i drove an automatic 2011 5.0 Mustang and power down low is not a problem. Gobs of it and it's no lightweight vehicle. The engine changes for the F150 seem to be only that the intake cams are changed for more low end, 1/2 point of compression less and different exhaust manifolds.

I just hope they found a way to lighten the chassis and will offer quite a few rear gear ratio options.

Well i bit the bullet today and ordered up a 2011 5.0 F150 2wd its nothing fancy just a XL model std cab short bed... I had to sell off some other trucks :'(

Yea truck is supposed to be around 4800 lbs for curb weight and should tow 8000 lbs , we shall see.. :-D

It's amazing what these trucks weigh now a days. For reference, my 86 F250 2wd, reg cab long bed comes in around 4350.

The new Taurus SHO is around 4400.

My 2006 F150 Supercrew 4x4 5.5 bed weighed around 5800.

I think the 6.2 with the new torqushift transmission is the way to go. The 5.0 is a great motor, and has lots of good features, but I think its a better choice for a mustang, or street car. 11 to 1 compression in the mustang and runs on pump gas. Pretty much they say with forged lower compression pistons its perfect for turbo's or superchargers. The 6.2 seams to be a good motor though. I haven't read about it except that it replaces the 5.4 and gets more fuel economy than the 5.4 did.

6.2/torqshift is available in the Super Duty only. Not in the F150. It's a good combo, but let's face it, the majority of truck buyers don't need an F250/350. For the average truck buyer, a modern half ton (which arguably is as capable, if not more, than an older 3/4ton) will do anything they want it to. Whether it is pulling their bass boat, with the kids, a cooler, and the dog to the lake on the weekend or pulling their ATV to their hunting area. That being said, if I were to be using a half ton pickup close to its limit all the time I would just upgrade to an F250 gasser but that's another discussion.
