replacing u joints in 4wd ?
 

Hey guys
I have a 1993 f250 351 4x4 and i think the u joints in the front are gone. When i put it in 4wd, if i go strait the front end makes minimal noise but when i turn it makes loud noises. I know its not the pumpkin or the driveshaft. I think it is the u joints by the wheels, the non greasable ones. How hard are these to replace? cost alot?

Cost a lot to have someone else do it. I am going to do mine before snow falls and you will need the special hub wrench (spaner thingy) the rest is doable with patience and about 150ish. The axle ujoints are easier to take to a driveline shop for them to finish up and you reinstall. Others will be better at the description. If you need the front drive shaft ujoints done just take the whole thing with ujoints still attached to the driveline shop and have them spin it and press the joints on it too. Might look at new locking hubs if you need them also. I have heard that Spicer makes greasable ujoints for the axle ujoints but have not seen them.

Spicer makes u joints I have seen them on broncograveyrd site they were pricy however. I got greasable u joints from federal mogul for $21 each. I never did u joints and just did mine the other day on both driver and passenger side. Use a socket that will rest on top of the u joint after removing the retaining clips and use a BFH to smack it through on each side. Don't make the mistake of hitting the receiving part of the axle shaft as I cracked mine but luckily had a donor truck to get a new one.

I also found PB blaster made them come out easier. If you search on you tube theres a bunch of videos showing how to do them. Hoe that helps.
