I've been known to make some purchases while passing through NH to avoid sales tax!!!

As Ron said...for a state with no income tax or sales tax...NH can be a pretty expensive state to live in!!!

ya no taxes is nice but the property taxes r thought roof.

Good evening Kevin. The old girl gets a little testy does she. Vermont property taxes ain't all that cheap either. But our vehicle registration is.

Top 10 Counties in the US: The top 10 counties in median real estate taxes paid over 2006-2008 are, from 1 to 10, Westchester County, NY ($8,404); Hunterdon county, NJ ($8,347); Nassau County, NY ($8,306); Bergen County, NJ ($7,997); Rockland County, NY ($7,798); Essex County, NJ ($7,676); Somerset County, NJ ($7,67); Morris County, NJ ($7,310); Passaic County, NJ ($7,095); and Union county, NJ ($7,058). The national median is $1,854.

Out of 10 NJ is the top 7 counties, I live in Morris and mine is $8,600 per year!

when I bought my house in 02 it was valued at 55,000 and the taxes where 1200 a year..I sided half the house and put in new windows 2 years later the value went to 135,000 and my taxes where 3,200 a year...1 years later a new school was built..taxes are now 3,800 a year...septic and water are 800 a year... needles to say in that town there are a lot of houses up for sale and a lot of people are just saying F it and walking away from it all...my Ford PSD cost me little over 200 a year to register..got to pay taxes on the value every year..we now have fuel tax, restaurant tax and cigarette tax...NH isn't looking so good any more...

Steve...my taxes are about the same as yours...for every 4 years!!! :-hair I pay about $200/year for water and sewer...have curbside trash/recycling pick up...and pay about $50 every 2 years for my vehicle registration. The point is...there are schools/PD/FD/Highway Departments...etc...to be paid for. Gotta get the money somewhere!!!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

Oh my water/sewer is $400/year and we do have trash/recycling pick-up, each cars reg is about $75/year. 80% of our tax dollars go to the schools!

ya i just registered my truck this year it was 200 last year it was 170 it only gets worse i gues.:'(

I thin to get a true picture you need to do the ratio of medium income vs taxes. I think Vermont would in the top ten for tax amount.

Tax Burden by State

New Jersey residents paid 11.8%, topping the charts. New Yorkers were close behind, paying 11.7%, and Connecticut was third at 11.1%. The top 10 were rounded out by Maryland (10.8%), Hawaii (10.6%), California (10.5%), Ohio (10.4%). Vermont (10.3%), Wisconsin (10.2%) and Rhode Island (10.2%).

Alaskans pay the least, 6.4 percent in 2008, but Nevada is close at 6.6 percent. In four states the residents pay between 7 and 8 percent of their income in state and local taxes: Wyoming (7.0%), Florida (7.4%), New Hampshire (7.6%) and South Dakota (7.9%). Four other states round out the bottom 10: Tennessee (8.3%), Texas (8.4%), Louisiana (8.4%) and Arizona (8.5%).
