460 water pump
 

ok so i just got a 76 f100 with a 460 and it needs a few little things done to it. right now im trying to figure out the water pump problem. its not pumping very much at all, compared to what i would imagine it should. its not leaking anywhere so i didnt think it was bad. there are two lines going to the head from the pump. one has a bad kink in it but how the line is routed it would have to be like 2 feet long instead of 6 inches to avoid this. what are these lines?

My 460 does not have that short line going to the head like yours, but i would find a preformed line with a bend at the auto parts, and see if that fixes your problem. You may need to take out the thermostat, and leave it out until you solve the problem. Pay attention when it comes out, make sure it was not installed backwards.
See if you can find a radiator shop that will reverse flush your cooling system. Hopefully you can get rid of any blockage, and avoid digging into your engine.

Is it running hot or something ?

ya it over heats quick. like after 3 minutes of driving

Do you mean that it is ready to boil over after starting the engine cold?

There should only be a very short bypass hose coming from the center of the intake manifold to the back of the pump and a line coming from the heater core to the boss near the passenger side head.
...And of course the lower radiator hose (intake)

As you can see the upper radiator hose comes from the thermostat housing and the output to the heater core just in front of it.

Maybe the heater core is bypassed and that is the hose you say is kinked?

I would remove the thermostat from it's housing and boil it in a pot of water to be sure it is opening. (inexpensive enough to just replace)
