Nice. How did you mount yours? I mounted my 8 head to the roof via some custom brackets. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Ahhh...interesting! I like that idea. Where you mounted your controller I am considering that spot for 12v power ports and additional switches as needed.

thats because they are!;) its called the taillight flip...turns a '02 excursion into a '08 excursion(like the '08-up super dutys with the reverse light on the top of the light instead of the bottom)

robert_l_ross 07-15-2011 05:27 PM

Huh...just for looks or do the higher reverse lights appear brighter?

AlaskanEx 07-15-2011 05:31 PM

just for looks, i have the white knight backup system to see. didnt notice any difference in output.

gotta be different!

robert_l_ross 07-15-2011 05:38 PM

I am pretty disappointed with the taillights. I added low power (45w) strobes to the third reflector...one day while launching our DART boat (about 30 minutes) I came back to find the outer lenses slightly buckled in.

Scratching my head as to how agencies like FDNY can run strobes all day long and mine start to melt after 30 minutes.

AlaskanEx 07-15-2011 11:18 PM

i installed another set of brake lights in the dead spot in mine. no issues with that.

robert_l_ross 07-16-2011 01:02 AM

I'll be switching my conventional strobe bulbs with some LED's (Whelen has some nice hide-away kits that use the same 1" hole) once the "finance department" (a.k.a. my wife) approves the PO. :)

yeah i've been wanting to try out the whelen vortex? LED hideaways. but i want to wait untill i get my LED taillights first.

Yup, those are the ones I will be getting as well. Be sure to give us a good pictorial review of the LED tail lights...the quality varies so much I for one am afraid to get any for fear they will suck! :)

I plan to make a panel to replace the trash hook/ash tray and put 12v and 110v outlets as well as a couple of 5v USB ports and aux. inputs for the radio... ;)

What will you use as an inverter?

Do you still have the stock stereo? If not, do you have a double-din replacement? I will be adding USB ports/Aux. In port in the "pocket" of the Metra mount unless I find a good double-din replacement.
