Allen Bolt Size on 2008 Expedition EL Front Brakes

Anyone know what size allen wrench I need to remove the calipers from the front brakes on a 2008 Expedition. They must have upped the size for that year. I tried both a 10mm and a 3/8". Both too small!

It's a 9MM./:-D

So...where does one get a 9mm allen head wrench (socket or wrench). I tried advance auto and harbor freight. Anyone successful?

paid $7 for a SAE and $9 for a Metric allen set. Each one had 5-6 sizes. Got them from Advance Auto. Just look in the generic tools section of your local Auto Parts store. Any decent one will carry them

I have a metric set but it is missing both the 7 and 9 MM.

Get a spare 10 mm one and spend a little time with a grinding wheel to take 0.5mm off each side.

I did that with an 8mm Allen when I had to do the rear brakes on my Mariner. I'd already gotten the 9mm Allen socket a few years prior.

Harbor Freight has a set of allen wrenches that worked for me, which includes 9mm. Had to use combo wrench as a cheater for torque to break them loose and tighten again.

Their item # is 62173. Cost: $5.99. URL:

It's amazing that the 9mm allen is oddly missing from most sets and auto parts stores. Total brake conspiracy.
