What size tires can I put on my truck?
I have a 2009 F-150 FX4 with a 2” leveling kit. Right now I have some Pirelli 275/55R20 (31.90 x 10.82) on my truck but just bought some new wheels and I am going to put some BFG All-Terrains on. I would like to put on either 305/65R18 (33.61 x 12.00) or 325/65R18 (34.63 x 12.79) but after talking to the buys at 4 wheel parts they said the biggest I can go is 285/65R18 (32.58 x 11.22). I know those guys are experienced but it makes no sense to me that a stock F-150 can have 285/65R18 tires and I have a 4x4 with a leveling kit which is at least 2” higher than stock and the tires I want are only 2 inches higher and an inch or 2 wider. I appreciate the help.

I call B.S. on the 285/65-18s. Maybe with just a stock truck but not with a LK. My stock 275/65-18s are 32.1" tall. I plan on a 34.4"x11.5 Nitto TG (295/70-18) before too long, and I also have a 2" LK. The problem you might run into is the width with the tires you want and you'd need the proper backspacing (which I don't have that answer)

I have a 09 FX4 with a 2.5" LK on and I have Nitto TG 325/60R18s on it right now. Pic in signature below. On my 04 FX4 I had a 2.5" LK with BFG AT 305/65R18s. They both fit great. I really liked the BFGs just because the tire was a little taller. I'm not sure if the 325/65 would fit or not.
Also on my old 2004 FX4 I hade 285/65R18s before my lveling kit so the Four Wheel Parts in your area is wrong. |
I don't know to much about that either but the wheels I bought have a -12 offset and a 4.6 inch backspace which I am told will stick out about 2 inches from the edge of the wheel well

Got a sawzall? :-X10

Yeah that sounds about right. Do you have a Performance Wheel and Tire where you live? They are pretty good about knowing what tires will fit with your setup. Then you can go somewhere else to buy the tires because Performance is expensive. Or believe it or not the Discount Tire in my area has a lot of knowledgable guys so maybe check one of those in your area as well.
Anyway with that said, again the Four Wheel Parts in your area is dead wrong. The 305 BFGs will fit and so will a 325/60 I'm just not sure about the 325/65. |
you could run 35/12.50/20s with a 2inch level kit and factory fx4 20 inch wheels
ive got 35in mudgrapplers |
04XLTRUNNER the 305/65R18 are 34.6 in wide which is a little less than those 35 in tires but they are also 12.8 in wide. Do you think that will be a problem?
|
i meant 325/65/r18

04XLTRUNNER the 325/65R18 are 34.6 in wide compared to your 35.02 in in tires but they are also 12.8 in wide compared to your 12.51 in wide. Do you think that will be a problem? Does your setup rub at all when your turn or go over bumps?
|
rubbing is not really a problem. the only part of the tire that rubs a little is the side lugs and at full turn. the mudgrapplers have really big side lugs. you should be ok running that size tire. just do a test fit and see how they fit. thats what i had to do before i got mine installed

I have a 97 ford f-150 3 door 4X4 truck with the original metal rims. The tires previously on it were P255/70R-16's. What is the least and max tire size I can put back on these rims and this truck? Thanks Keith

tire recommendations 2011 F150
I have a 2011 F150 XLT 4x4 supercrew on order but hate the stock 275/65-18 tires! I already have an auto spring 2.5in front, 1.5in rear leveling kit. I love BFG all terrains and really wanted to install 305/65-18 (12in x 33.6in) but am having trouble finding that size??? I was maybe considering going with a 315/70-17 (12.4in x 34.3in) with new wheel, or a 275/70-18 (10.8in x 33.1in)? I was curious if anyone had suggestions or recommendations????
