Mahaloz Bill! What does it mean that it was an incomplete Ford vehicle? As you can tell Im new to this forum and have a lot to learn about larger trucks, diesel engines, and how to operate and maintain them. Ive seem to have had a difficult time finding information on the older F700 model and for example on PTOs. When I click on a link at this site theres always tons on threads can I narrow this down w a search for just F700s? FYI I did bid on all three service manuals from ebay and have been browsing those. I would also like to install a hydraulic dump, modify the bed, and treat the entire chassis and bed with zero rust. Thanks in advance for any direction you can give.

Incomplete vehicle = "chassis/cab", or cutaway or certain other configurations where a body or other equipment is to be added by the buyer or another vendor.

For a PTO, post your data plate info to find out what trans you have. Once you know the trans, you can find a PTO to fit. Millions served. The PTO will not be F700 specific, but rather specific to the transmission.

Welcome to FTE

F70 = F700 (gas).

D = 361 2V FT engine.

U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.

C73119 = 1968, assembled January 1968. This is the F700's specific serial number.

Ford confusion :confused: Or, it could be a 1976, as FoMoCo used the same sequence of serial numbers as they did in 1968.

1968 serial number range: C00,001 - D82,000.

1976 serial number range: A00,001 - D25,000.

If a 1976, there's two ways to ID:

The Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch, will have 1976 on the 3rd line between the GVW and the DSO code.

Safety Standard Certification Label intro'd in 1970, glued to the left (drivers) side B pillar below the door striker plate. Has the production date at the upper right or left corner.

It was sold to me as a 1967.
Thank you very much for the information.

Bill, you da man!! Thanks for helping us with this decoding stuff. I have another one for you. I bought a '79 F7000 diesel grain truck with a dump bed. The data plate on the door is obviously incorrect since the VIN starts with F10. The plate is painted over and the door handle is different so apparently the door was replaced and the plate wasn't transferred. From the registration, the VIN is K70BVFC9184. Is the plate data replicated anywhere else on the chassis? Thanks for any decoding help you can offer.

K70 = F700 Diesel.

B = Caterpillar V190-3208 636 cid V8 Diesel or Cummins KTA 600 1150 cid I-6 Diesel.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

FC9184 = 1979.

There will be a hidden VIN stamped on the top of the frame rail, but where it is on your truck, I dunno.

You can get a duplicate Warranty Plate with all the correct codes stamped on it by passing along your VIN to martiauto.com
