Transmission Range Sensor

I have a 95 ford explorer sport that has been giving me issues starting to the point that I had to move it to neutral, then sometimes reverse before it would start. I am told that matches the symptoms of the transmission range sensor going out.

I have the part, and I have gotten all but the center nut off, and man it is not budging. Any time I try to move it the manual shift lever pops gears on me. Is there a way to lock that down so it does not move while I losen the nut?

Thanks,

Walter

Well, leaving the shift cable on did not do it! Now I need to replace that stupid thing - they tend to break if you put to much pressure on them .

For the record, I put it back on and then went back out and forgot that I had done so. I was reminded quickly as I heard an strange snap. Followed by a few choice words.

Of course, the transmission shift cable is a dealer only item, or junk yard.
