Climate Controlled Seat
 

I know this is a rehash of some older threads but I thought it might help some other noobs like me.

I have an 07 EL Expy Limited which I purchased used with 35799 miles on 4/29/10. The AC seat works but doesn't seem to be very cool. Wife says passenger seat gets her too cool. I see a TSB for the issue: 07-15-5 08/06/2007 A/C, Interior - Poor Climate Control Seat Cooling but I am unable to find the TSB or see if I can trouble shoot this myself.

I also had the mysterious "clicking" noise on the driver's seat when power was off which I was able to stop by slightly adjusting the power adjust control. Noise hasn't returned but nags my sense of doom.

Does anyone have the info on the TSB regarding poor cooling on climate controlled seats? I bought the FORD extended warranty on the vehicle and should be covered if a trip to the dealership is necessary.

Finally, is there a website that I can enter my VIN into and check to see if all recall work was done to my ride. I know I can probably go to the dealership but why if I don't have too.

POOR SEAT COOLING PERFORMANCE - BUILT BEFORE 7/16/2007

This article supersedes TSB 07-15-5 to update the Service Procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2007-2008 Expedition and Navigator vehicles built before 7/16/2007 and equipped with climate control seats, may exhibit poor cooling performance in the seat.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Verify there are no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and that the thermal emitting device and fan assemblies are working properly. Then use IDS to select the Maximum Output Mode. This will increase fan speed to provide quicker cooling.
1. Using IDS (equipped with release B51.5 or higher) normally ID the vehicle.

2. Select "Toolbox" at the top of the screen.

3. Select "Module Programming" from the menu.

4. Select "Programmable Parameters".

5. Select "Climate Control Seats".

6. Select "High Cool Blower Voltage" to change setting.

7. Select "Maximum Output Mode".

8. After the preference has been successfully changed, verify that the seat fan assemblies are operating according to the new setting.

FWIW, I had this tsb performed on my 2007 and it definitely made my seats louder, as in you could really hear the fan, but did not really notice any difference in cooling.. Waiting to see if my 2010 will be any better..

my seats are loud as hell also...when they do work. They don't ever get cold though. Temp is set 67-70F and on auto mode. Seats never seem to do the job as described

How true!
Mine is set at 60-63F and using the downward vents to see if it will push colder air thru the fans. Its not very well designed. Don't understand why they couldn't just run an A/C return right into the seats as other car manufacturers do:confused:

I think this would have been better. Put a flexible hose mounted to the underside of the seat. Then put a control that would throttle the door allowing you to have the same flow as the main a/c system. Much cheaper and a lot less electronics.

That would work.....But I think that this would be to puzzling for the Ford engineer....:-X04

I should have bought regular seats and ran that duct myself. then used an icepick to make a few holes in the leather. cheap and most likely way more effective

Maybe we need to post a video of this and send it out to Ford:-X03
