63 8 Door Van 05-11-2010 12:02 PM

VIN Research

My 1963 (I am told) 8 door van does not have a title. I have already invested too much in it not to have a title. The previous owner has a letter from the state of Arkansas that it was clear and could be titled if he jumped through the right hoops. He just parked it and never did anything for about 8 or 10 years. I traded a good 92 Caravan for it and have done the motor and some body work. I will be investing more soon and need to get the title. How do I research the VIN to know for sure what I have? The number is E14AHA01207. I am in MO. I have a bill of sale. Has anyone gone through this process in MO?

E14AHA01207.

E14 = E100 Van.

A = 240 1V I-6.

H = Lorain OH Assembly Plant.

A01207 = 1967 ~ Assembled August 1966 / A01207 is your Econoline's specific serial number.

The 240 was introduced for model year 1965.

A 1963 Econoline would have either a 144 I-6 (VIN engine code S) or a 170 I-6 (VIN engine code T).

If a 1963, the serial number (last 6 digits of the VIN) would have fallen within serial number: 325,001 thru 445,000.

Thanks Bill,
This confirms what I was seeing from other sources (which I was not sure I could trust) I wish it could have been the older model, but a 67 works for me. Last year of produciton. It does have the 12 volt system with alternator as well.

It should have the one year only Dual Master cylinder!!!

I'm not famaliar with titles since where I live a receipt or bill of sale is still acceptable.
I did sell a truck to a neighboring province. I had to get a bill of sale noterize and send to the buyer. It was then accepted for license in his province and insurance.
Would a sworn document from the previous owner with a notorize stamp work. ?
Your DMV should tell you how. But I heard horror story's about how they rather see the old cars get scrapped than restored and make it hard to get title.
Post this problem in your chapter forums, and you should get someone locally that may know more of what to do there.

E15-- Panel Van
T -- 170CID motor
H -- Lorain Assembly plant
605196 Sequential number. Says it was built in Oct. 1964. The van is a 1965.

E14-- Regular van
F --That does not show in my books.
H -- Lorain Assembly plant
803462 Sequential build number. Says it was built in 1966. about February. I only have a book up to 65.
Numberdummy has more info than I. So he can say what the F is also.

Thank you 66gpw! I do think "F" is also a 170. Can I ask where you get this info? If not, I still thank you! Can I link this page to another site?

803462 Sequential build number = 1966. Assembled January 1966. January '66 serial number range: 802,000 thru 815,999.

F used beginning in 1966 for the 170 1V I-6.

My decode info was taken from the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, which is available on a CD from hipoparts.com for $22.00.

Mine info comes from a 61 and 65 Econoline shop manuals. Canadian version. It shows both States serial numbers and Canadian serial numbers.
The Canadian version is slightly different. They have the Sequential numbers first.
