Rockwell Build Thread

Nope, this isn't the rockwell build ya'll are asking for but simply a request by me to keep the BS out of my thread. I'm pretty good at documenting my work and I'm willing to take the time to make a build thread but only if it can stay tech related. So lemme know what you think..

ps.. I did make progress on it today. Here's a glimse of the front after being debraked, stripped of excess weight and 53's mounted on it.

Prozon 05-10-2010 11:21 AM

Haha wow. Get it done already.

What "excess weight" did you strip anyways?

fatdan460 05-10-2010 07:40 PM

i lolled! kirby, why did you get 2 rears? plan on putting them in another pile of yours as well? or do you have plans on making the worlds largest segway?
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/z...n460/kirby.jpg

Kirbys73F100 05-10-2010 08:00 PM

Haha, that settles it then, I won't waste my time with a build thread. I debraked the front and took off the boot shields.

fatdan460 05-10-2010 08:05 PM

well that's ghey. seriously, why did you get 2 rears?

dillinewton 05-10-2010 08:19 PM

dan that is the worst photoshopin job i have ever seen in my life.

fatdan460 05-10-2010 08:24 PM

no photoshop, that's too classy for me. i use paint, and did that in about 15 seconds as you can tell

dillinewton 05-10-2010 08:27 PM

well i knew it wasnt photoshop just the method of photoshop editing....

The deal I worked out with the guy I got the front from had 2 rears advertised with it. I got a front, 2 rears and 10 wheels/tires for $1,000. I had already bought 1 rear so now I have 3. I'm going to sell the two I don't need and regain the gas money I spent picking up the set plus some.

Kirbys73F100 05-10-2010 08:46 PM

I've been debating just keeping one for spare parts for when I finally make enough power to break one.

fatdan460 05-10-2010 08:49 PM

from what i've seen online, it ain't hard with those tires. i was reading last week about people breaking the oversun 2'' shafts

crazyredneckanyhow 05-10-2010 08:50 PM

Just continue the build thread. If you cant handle some joking and BS then you should just go ahead and die. Life isnt worth it if youre gonna be serious 100% of the time. Everything has its place and some things to learn from it. Ill be watching.

And with that said im taking bets on who gets done first. Him or Nick.

Kirbys73F100 05-10-2010 08:52 PM

If I have too much of a problem, I'll trade my brand new 53s for a bogger in a smaller size. There's a lot of weight to be saved by running a normal offroad tire/wheel.

dillinewton 05-10-2010 09:01 PM

ya i vote with cheeto

fatdan460 05-10-2010 09:07 PM

nick is quad, right? where did he go? he hasn't posted since i came back. almost hurt my feelings, not really, i just wanna see his truck finished

Prozon 05-11-2010 10:44 AM

Dan, Nick did post for a little while when your around. (I'm pretty sure anyways.)

And i'm about 98% sure Kirby will finish before Nick. Isn't Nick's like 4 years in the making??? :P

What kind of r-tard would trade 53" Michelins for a set of boggers? First off...the Michelins are cheap tires and boggers are certainly not. Ive heard of guys buying the 53s for around $500 a set here lately and 39.5 Boggers cost about $500 per tire. Secondly Michelins are crappy offroad and boggers are certainly not. Besides the cheap price and long lasting tread design/compound I dont see much going for these tires on anything but a mallcrawler.

Nick left in the spring of '08 with the rest of the Minions. I talk with him from time to time and he is still making progress on the truck.

Im 198% sure that when Nick finally finishes the truck it will be better built than most of the other trucks on rocks. He didnt cut the corners that most do.

Yeah I know, but he was back not too long ago wasn't he? Obviously didn't stick around long though.

I'll agree with that too.

TheTinian 05-11-2010 02:45 PM

Normally when you buy a set of take outs they come with 2 rears/1front since that is what come on the trucks. Most guys sell it all or nothing.

Are you planning on running the street with these or strictly offroad?
If offroad only ditch the 53's and get a set R1's.

Chances are you will break them easier with the 53's because of the weight.

I love how you guys talk about the "minions" like your in some hardcore street gang. :-X14

kjett 05-11-2010 05:00 PM

not a street gang, just a bunch of drunks that like to get our trucks dirty.

C'mon Kirby! Progress you lazy *******.

Oh and Tinian, still want those rocks? Haha. Sadly they're not selling.

Sold the winch for $500, selling that 413 big block for $350, selling the top for $300..
That is already a profit on that 6x6. :D
...now someone needs to buy the frickin' rocks!

Hell, maybe if Kirby's truck looks good i'll do a Rockwell build. But like I said in that other thread.. just need a good platform to build from.

fatdan460 05-12-2010 12:10 AM

good platform? any leaf sprung ford ever made is a candidate for a simple swap. or anything that you can fit leaf springs under. my vote goes to a ford festiva on a shortened bronco II frame with a 460 rammed into it

Prozon 05-12-2010 12:33 AM

Ah but hell Dan, lets take this over to the other thread so I don't upset Kirby by hijacking his thread. Hadn't intended to.

My reply is over there.

Hows the progress on this thing?

fatdan460 05-13-2010 02:25 PM

TheTinian 05-13-2010 02:35 PM

DAMN!

Thats how I mount all my tires.:D
I've never had that happen. I do em on the ground and with the 44's they lifted a couple feet off the ground when they popped.

fatdan460 05-13-2010 02:39 PM

there's one vid with a guy mounting 44's on 21'' wide wheels. retarded. i have mounted tires like that too, except the spray can torch to light it. i try to stand back and throw a match or something.

TheTinian 05-13-2010 02:55 PM

I do the spray torch thing.... x(

Or you run the rim with brake cleaner and continue it on the ground to make a trail so your not too close.
Usually have 3 people to do it. One to spray, one to light, and one with water if it doesn't seat.

Call me a retard......

Okay! RETARD.

Not sure why though. Good method, i've heard of tires getting burned up. Always good to have somebody nearby with water haha.
