good platform? any leaf sprung ford ever made is a candidate for a simple swap. or anything that you can fit leaf springs under. my vote goes to a ford festiva on a shortened bronco II frame with a 460 rammed into it

Ah but hell Dan, lets take this over to the other thread so I don't upset Kirby by hijacking his thread. Hadn't intended to.

My reply is over there.

DAMN!

Thats how I mount all my tires.:D
I've never had that happen. I do em on the ground and with the 44's they lifted a couple feet off the ground when they popped.

fatdan460 05-13-2010 02:39 PM

there's one vid with a guy mounting 44's on 21'' wide wheels. retarded. i have mounted tires like that too, except the spray can torch to light it. i try to stand back and throw a match or something.

TheTinian 05-13-2010 02:55 PM

I do the spray torch thing.... x(

Or you run the rim with brake cleaner and continue it on the ground to make a trail so your not too close.
Usually have 3 people to do it. One to spray, one to light, and one with water if it doesn't seat.

Call me a retard......

Okay! RETARD.

Not sure why though. Good method, i've heard of tires getting burned up. Always good to have somebody nearby with water haha.

alpha/omega 05-13-2010 04:36 PM

Karl, Nick #2 and myself did that to my boggers and Ive done several tires this way before and since. Easy if youve got good sense and are careful.

If I have too much of a problem, I'll trade my brand new 53s for a bogger in a smaller size. There's a lot of weight to be saved by running a normal offroad tire/wheel.

I am by no means a tire or off-road expert, but I am not a fan of the 53's. They are a VERY strong tire (we have 100,000 lb. trucks using them), but they do not fare well in the mud. Maybe it's the excessive weight of the trucks or maybe it's the nasty mud over here in Iraq; or it might be both. Even when the tires are spinning pretty fast (fast enough to clean out boggers) the treds still stay caked in mud.

This is a picture of my 40,000lb. MRAP a few weeks ago after it rained the night before. Even after we got back to our fob and had been riding at 60mph the tires were still full of mud. Again, I'm not an expert; just giving my opinion and experience. Good luck on the build.

Looks like the military could use some boggers. ;)

*gasp*
A military strength bogger?

fatdan460 05-19-2010 02:21 PM

i saw a video on youtube about industrial iroks, so you never know. but i doubt they would go for it. but a hemtt on 54'' boggers would be about as cool as anything could ever be
