Peeling Paint
 

I have an '09 Eddie Bauer and I have some paint peeling on both of my front fender flares. I noticed it on the driver side a while back and now it is starting on the passenger side too. I can see the plastic underneath. It is about 3 or four inches long by about a half inch wide on the drivers side. It is smaller on the passenger side I am not sure if a rock hit it and caused it to happen or not. I wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen to them? I am not sure if it is something that might be covered under warranty. I know that is a long shot.

I would take it to your dealer soon. Peeling paint is an adhesion problem. Rocks will cause small chips, but it should not peel. There is a TSB for paint peeling on aluminum body parts but I don't think it applies here. They should fix it.

wow...and the issues are on other body parts as well.


yes, take it in. a rock ding/chip is one thing. but peeling paint is covered by the factory warranty.

I finally found the time to take it in to the dealer and I just got back from doing that. The service manager looked at it and said Ford's stance on something like this has been a rock hit it and then caused the paint to crack all around it which then peels off from water or whatever. I said to him that doesn't really make any sense to me. It seems like a defect. Rock chips are one thing but peeling paint is not cool. So, he takes the VIN and looks it up on his computer and then says that it has had no warranty work yet and I knew that. So, he says they will fix it for me. I need to drop it off for 2 days and I have to pay $20/day for the rental car that I am going to need. I think I am going to fight them on that. I think that should be covered as well but at least they are fixing it.

I had the oil changed and tires rotated when I was there. The Ford oval in the middle of the rim fell off of one of my rims. I just noticed that. I guess they will be putting/glueing another one of those on for me too.

That is good. They are not obligated to pay a rental unless you have an extended warranty that includes this. And rock chips don't make paint peel. If that was the case the hoods of most cars would be missing most of the paint.

Center emblem,,, they call it " delaminating",, I have had three of four replaced on my 07 EL Limited. They should replace with new,not reglue.
