FRONT BRAKES GRINDING NOISE WHEN COMING TO A STOP BUT PADS HAVE 80%
 

Ok so my front pads have about 80% left. When I slow to a stop, the last few yards of coming to a stop it sounds like my left front is grinding, or even wet. Checked the rotor, no scoring. Checked the pads...no metal on metal....What the yikes can this be??

What type of pads/rotors do you have? Does it make the noise every time you stop?

I can't hear it exactly :) but...

if the caliper is loose in it's mounting it can vibrate. Think 3D when you look at it.

Do you need those special glasses? :-)

Check the backs. I had a grinding noise that sounded from the front and it turned out to be the backs.

My brakes do the same thing same thickness and the back ones were replaced at the same time, and this is what i've been told by autozone the brake pad brand i used duralast golds (autozone brand) dont come in a ceraminc material like all the others for some reason:confused: so i was told to upgrade to a better brand of pad ie Hawk, Ebc. so now i guessin im gonna go that route and im gonna upgrade the rotors as well, when i burn the old pads up.

Turned out the slides for the pads were dry and blacked up with brake dust. Pulled the caliper and pads, cleaned and lubed the slides and pins and reinstalled. Bingo, sound was gone.

Hope this helps, easy fix if this is indeed the same problem.

Always possible that it is a wheel bearing grinding... especially if it is 2wd....

I get a grinding/vibration when stopping the last few feet and my brakes are still full of life but i feel it on both sides!

I wouldn't worry about it. Things can vibrate if the conditions change slightly. Could be moisture, dust, brand of pads, slightly loose part, etc. It might even go away. It sounds like more of a chattering problem. Chatter is caused by things QUICKLY grabbing and releasing which causes a vibration.

So I pulled my brakes apart, this has been happening on and off for a year. it would grind the last few feet of a stop on and off. Both sides. I pulled the pads and found the fronts with hair line cracks in them, the rotors were fine. I work in a shop so I just had my parts vender warranty my pads and rotors, and I upgraded from duralast ceramic or what ever they heck they were to wagner ceramic, and wagner rotors. No more noise.

YES I suspect wheel bearing vs brakes.

Nope it was DA brakes....no metal on metal either. I guess it was just bad pads...

Metallic or semi metallic? I normally run the ceramic pads.

ceramic pads. I replaced the pads and rotors and the problem went away immediately.
