Remote Starter

I am about to get a Remote Starter installed in my new F-150 this week.

Having never owned or used this feature before, are there any concerns?

Is there anything I need to be aware of in terms of security?

Also is it possible to set the truck up in the winter so when I remote start it the Defrost etc... is on? Is it just a matter of cranking it all up on bust before I turn off the truck when I park it the night before?

Thanks in advance

jp

what rmst brand are you getting?

all you do is set your defrost settings the night before and it will come on when you remote start it. If you have a rear defrost, then that is typically an extra wire hookup and usually you have to press an extra button or the rmst button twice to turn on the rear defrost.

I have the powercode one from ford. It is the 6 button remote start with alarm all in one FOB. I am happy with it. They are setup to turn the truck off once you open the door after remote starting it, but it can be reprogrammed to stay running...that is what I did. Something to do with fords smart key is why they do that.

I didn't want two different fob's plus I needed a alarm system so the powercode 6 button fit the bill. I believe the range for starting is longer with this than a standard remote starter?

Security-As part of the starting sequence it will lock all the doors before remote starting.

Winter- Set it how you want it for the morn. Also I believe you can have it turn on heated mirrors and seats if you have them

^can't turn on the heated seats with the Ford system, but you can turn on the heated mirrors and rear defrost (same button).

I also have the Ford 6-button rmst/alarm. I've been using Ford Powercode for 8 years and they always work great.

I would like to ask one question about the 6 button remote starter and alarm. Did you purchase the truck with it already installed or did you install after?
I have a 2010 F-150 XTR, I am also looking at installing a remote start. I was reading and like the feature that you can turn on the rear defroster. I also like the one FOB. If you installed after you purchased the truck was it a big job? How sensitive is the alarm?

Thanks Kevin

I had the dealer install mine.
The sensitivity levels can be changed to your liking.
Think it would be a big job for a diy'er took the dealer a few hrs.

x2 I had the dealer install on my new 10 XLT XTR 4x4....works great with the alarm as well.

Mine will be installed by Ford as part of their $1000 free accessories deal right now. It will take a full afternoon, not sure about which remote they will give me, but I am guessing the one with the least options as it is free. Thanks for the info on how to start it up, I am sure looking forward to a warm car in the winter here in Canada!

Newfieboy...the better remote which includes an alarm and seperate fobes is only $100 more than the basic one,.,,,I think it was about $599 installed by my dealer in Newmarket. I used up the $1000 accessories on the hard folding tonneau cover

do they make this powercode remote starter without the alarm in one key fob? If so, how much would it be for that one? Thanks.

not anymore, but they used to, it was a 4-button fob. For some reason they discontinued it and dealers don't have it in stock anymore. On rare occasion, you might see one on ebay.

The systems themself don't differ in price that much. You could get the 6-button alarm version, but if you don't like the alarm feature, you can turn it off within the programming options.

or another option if you don't want to carry a bunch of fobs around is that some guys have used the Ford Fusion key that has built-in lock/unlock buttons and they programmed that to work with their truck, and then you just attach the 1-button remote start fob to that.
