How much can my stock 150 Haul?
 

1995 F-150 2wd 4R75W -whatever- trans. and a 5 liter.

As far as a 350lb 4 wheeler in the bed and a 3400lb car on a trailer?? About 4k lbs, but a fraction of that on the ball.

Driving across the country again and I want to take both vehicles, the Camaro and the truck. I have a second driver if I need it, but I want to stop off in IL and visit my girl for a couple days.

Can I Trailer the car AND put the 4 wheeler in the bed? I'd prolly need a TRUE Class 2 or 3 hitch and an additional trans cooler. With 157k miles on this I don't want it breaking down half way there, and it'll prolly get 8mpg the whole way there (CT to Vegas.) DRAGGIN trying to take a hill.. this truck is truly in phenomenal shape, but I don't want to kill it. (Gotta post pics tomorrow if I can... Still workin on gas mileage #'s from the E-Fan conversion. Getting 13 city. No real HW #'s yet)

Anyway.. Sorry if this a rather general question, and I'm not sure of the exact weights and the door sticker confuses me.

What rear end gears and what size tires?

Does it already have a trans cooler?

Make sure you turn OD off.

you are going to be dragging arse all the way there... if i were towing that heavy i would want a trailer with breaks, tranny cooler, and a tune up before the trip...

With a trans cooler in it you'll be OK as long as you're not trying to keep up with freeway traffic. I have a hard time believing that car only weighs 3400lbs though.. should be closer to 4k unless it's a stripped drag car, and a trailer capable of carring it will be about 1k too, so the total weigh is upwards of 5000lbs.

And yeah, it's going to be more than 4000 lbs. Checked last night and it came out to: The trailer is 2120, the car is 3400, the quad is 350... So 5870 lbs.

No sure on the rear gear, stock tire size 235/65(?) and it has a stock trans cooler (Rad) but I could add the aftermarket one. I'm not thinking this is going to happen, then.

no need for the extra trans cooler if you already have one. How long has it been since you changed your tranny and radiator fluid????

^ tranny was just serviced a couple weeks ago. I keep up on the maintenance. I gotta get some pics, you guy won't believe it! This truck is really in amazing shape for 157k miles. It runs like it's brand new and I'm not even kidding. :D LOTS of TLC.

I just flushed the coolant not long ago. Just gotta replace the hoses and some front end bushings. They're fine, but the front end has some klunks, and the hoses are still good but, preventative maintenance.

^ I've been tinkering with this truck since I got it about 3 or 4 years ago. Gearheads are some of the best owners because they take VERY good care of their vehicles. :D

thats pretty dang heavy. And forget about a class II or III hitch. You need a Class IV Hitch that meets all the requirements of your trailer plus some extra.

post the axle code on the door jam sticker and we can tell you what the gears are.

trailer brakes will be a must. Before i know better and when my truck was still stock i tried pulling a 4000lbs trailer without brakes and couldn't even stop it marginally quick if i needed too.

with the right hitch and a good trailer brake set up. You can pull it. But you cant be in to much or a hurry. Take your time. If there are hill or mountains its gonna be slow. But if you can handle that then you should be ok. The F150 it self when correctly equipped can handle the same trailers an f250 can. Its in the owners manual. Your only issue is gonna be engine power.

Just looked, it's got an additional trans cooler. Small one, but it's there.

Well, none of the spec books i have have a 17. It must be a late 90's thing. i only have through 93, Maybe someone else will chime in and help.

Do you have your owners manual? If so, you should be able to look in it about half way through and find the towing section. Its right before towing is the axle id chart. Maybe pg 164???

But truthfully, its not looking good. 12 is 2.72, and 18 is 3.08. im guessing that 17 is somewhere in between. And really anything higher(lower numerically) then 3.08 will be hard to pull with. But then again it could be 3.73, thats the only one that my books dont list, maybe they added it later and gave it 17.

^ Well, first gear winds out at 45mph, so it's prolly a smaller gear.

Just checked the manual. 17 is a 3.31 gear.

And the "Maintenance log" only goes to 120k miles. :-X10 I guess they figure you're on your own after that.

AHHH!!!! haha, i wind out at 10mph in first. It might be 2.9X or so. If it weren't for that i would say go for it. But i dont think you would be happy or comfortable on that long of a trip, and the 5.0 would be wide open the whole time, especially with those gears. And forget about climbing hills, its not gonna happen with those.
