2000 Ford Ranger lost reverse and overdrive problems

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger, 3.0L, automatic transmission. Approx 132,000 Miles. Tranny fluid level is fine. With no warning I lost reverse and the truck will not shift while in overdrive. If you manually turn overdrive off...truck works great. It will go in reverse but the rpms can get pretty high in the process. Also if on the highway going at least 45-50 the truck will begin shifting again with the overdrive turned on. Is this something easy like a torque converter or am I looking at a new transmission?

WOW. That sounds exactly like my symptoms. I mean almost spooky. I replaced my valve body with no change so it had to be TC or in main tranny body.

I grew tired of messing with it and replaced it with a used tranny. Its still sitting on my back porch.

Oh no thats not good! I may take a chance and try the TC first...I'll let you know what happens.

What is the maintenance history of the trans?

Not good....my dad decided to have it serviced for possibly the first time at 80,000 miles. Bout 30,000 miles later it started doing this. It has a quart of Lucas tranny fix in it which actually helped. It stopped acting up for awhile. I'm afraid to do anything else with the fluid though. Would prolly finish it off for good.
