hot rod 66 f600?
has anyone ever hot rodded these older heavy trucks? i'd love to see pics of one of these old girls hot rodded. i've got a 66 f600 and my step father wants to scrap her but i just love the look of this old girl. so im wondering if anyone has every built a hot rod out of one of these. i'd love to see one lowered down a bit maybe ridding on some newer aluminum rims.

Here's one that I was drooling over, it was listed on ebay and sold for $9000. don't know why I like the commercial trucks but they are... Vintage Cool.

I saw a mid 50's big truck at a swap meet that they had lowered somehow...looked awesome...had a buick nailhead motor in it. If you have 20" wheels, you could throw some 20" tires that are a lo-pro or something and that would really bring it down into the lower atmospere :)

I've seen similar types of trucks hot rodded. They've looked good. They do it with semi's. Since he's shown his cards, offer a fair scrap price and buy it from him - unless he'll give it to you.

i might just have to see if i can work a deal to save her. it would look damn nice in satin black...laying a bit lower. i think we may have a early 60's bed laying around the yard as well. anyone know the bolt pattern on those wheels??

if anyone has any good pics of one of these ol girls all done up i'd love to see it. im happy it does have 20" rims so i could use modern day suv tires on it to help get her down to earth. talked to my step father about trading some work for her and he doesnt care but worrys about it being a money pit...i am now looking into the possiblity of how to lower the nose. trying to figure out how to drop the front beam down. i could ditch a couple of the nine leaves i guess.

Removing some leafs would sure bring it down...and soften the ride up quite a bit. If you are just wanting to have a rig to ride around in, the softer springs will not be a problem.
You might could even get away with pulling more leafs than that...just don't go crazy and pull all of them. You might try pulling every other and see what happens. ROb |

yeah it could be a money pit...hard to say. im not worried about how much labor may be involved. im doing a full on resto on my 73 highboy, the only part i need to farm out is welding the thin metal. we have 3 large welders on site. i can fab cut and modify just about anything. i didnt know these are those much dreaded split rim. we have 2 large tire machines for mounting semi and car wheels. i'd have to see if my step father is good at these type of rims. he's been doing tire work on large trucks for several years.

number dummy thanks for the break down. thats awsome to know about that. i do have a couple options i guess. one, i could swap the front and rear axles to a newer dulley set. or two, i could swap the body onto the dulleys frame. not sure of what year it is as its just a chassis with a 6.9 diesel. or i could slam the body onto the 76 pete frame with a 3406 cat motor...LOL granted i'd be driving from the bed...lol yeah i plan on just driving the truck around for fun. if i need to move anything super heavy, we've got 3 semi's waiting...i highly doubt their is replacement wheels with that massive 6 x 8.75 bolt pattern.
