Charge Air Cooler leak

Hi everyone,

I have an '08 Job #1 truck. I found a leak (oily substance) leaking from the bottom corner (passenger side) of the charge air cooler a couple of weeks ago. I wiped it with a rag and it came back. It appeared to be originating from the welded corner of the CAC.

The dealer replaced the charge air cooler and I have the new 7C3Z-6K775-B CAC. (I also have the white smoke on acceleration in damp weather issue which the new CAC is supposed to address)

I'm not a diesel gear head, but my question is what is that much oil doing in the charge air cooler?? Dealer says "normal".

Thanks!!
DH

Is this what the CCV mod took care of on the 7.3's?

Yes its also the mod that was done on the 6.0's There will be oil residue in the bottom the CAC the amount relay depends on the total use at the time its checked.

Thanks for the info about the oil residue.

My truck has not had the white smoke under heavy throttle in damp conditions and it has not stumbled on "hammer down" acceleration from stop signs, merging, etc. So far, me likes how the new CAC is doing.

Champ,
What dealer are you using for your service work?

Burchett Ford. So far, truck hasn't choked once under hard acceleration. It takes a bit more turbo on the top end to get my 5th wheel going but other than that, it performs better.

Good you hear. Just wondering if you were pleased with Burchett. I take mine to Two Rivers at the moment, but Burchett would be a little closer for me. I'm not at all familiar with their service dept though.
