1966 ford restoration
Hi guys i have been restoring my 66 f 100 the last couple of years. I have been doing a lot of metal work and was documenting it on another webs site. Well the site crashed and all my pics and post were lost. It got to be a lot to post picks in differant places so i am going to try to keep up with it here as much as i can. I have some pic in an album i started. Here is a link to my thread on Allmetalshaping.com where i am also keeping up with it.

It seems one must be a member since as soon as you click a .jpg link you get taken to the log in page.

i am a member of metalmeet.com and there was a system crash. They were able to reload but the backup is 3 1/2 years old so anything since 2007 was lost but they are still trying to get the info back.
Back to the topic at hand i worked on the pickup alittle today and managed to get the inner cab corner in and hope to get the outer done tomorow. I willl see if i can get some new pics too. |

I think they're putting you on. Hope it wasn't a pay site in any case. |
No its not a pay site. It has been around a long time and there are many great metal shapers on there. If i understand right they switched website host or something like that and they didnt backup the info like they were supposed to. But i dont want to get away from why i started this thread by talking about website crashes i want to stay on topic about my truck project.

There's the exhaust fan picture! Cool stuff.
Sorry to hear about losing the pics. That's rough. I agree w/ Jowilker - think I'll start following his lead! |
Heres a few pics of the cab corners from this weekend. I didnt have the welds ground before this pic but my wife and son were sleeping so no noise. I hope to be on to the doors next weekend.

Really nice job on the welds, I was a member for a short while at metalmeet.org but then the site crashed, just got signed back up. For anyone who hasnt been there it is an amazing site with an incredible amount of knowledge when it comes to welding, metalshaping, etc. A must see/read for anyone who is looking into to metal work such as rust repair, etc. Look forward to seeing more progress on your truck, keep up the great work!

My welds werent that good in a few spots. My gap go a bit to big in a few places but where it had the gap right they were awsome welds. I am happy with my plug welds on the bottom. I just hope my welder gun holds up a little longer. I am going to start on the doors next and next month at a metal meet i am going to tackle one of the box corners thats rough. I am going to go from the wheel arch to the tail light panel.

Started on my door tonight. I made a patch to fix some rust on the inside of the door case. I just need to cut it out and weld it in. Heres some pics.

You are a pretty damn good metal worker. :-drink

Thanks John i would like to think i may be getting the hang of this metal shapping.
I got the door patch in today but my son was asleep so i couldnt grind the welds down so i hope to do that tomorow. The other door may be a little more challenging. If i remember i need to work on the inside of the door and the outside lower bottom of the skin. |
Been wathcing your thread....really nice work. Too bad about the progress rate - but family comes first!!!

Sorry i havent updated this in a while but i have made some progress on the doors. I had to make the lower inside door panel, the one that the outer skin folds over. It kicked my butt 2 times before i decided to do it in two parts instead of one. I have it welded in but i need to grind the welds and hit a few spots. Then i can start on th outer skin. While my son is sleeping i do some panels that dont require me to make noise so he gets a good nap. I have started on the patch for the rear of the box side. i will have to get the pictures loaded on photo bucket so i can get them here so you can see that progress. i will try a link for now till i get the pick ready.pickup box side corner - All MetalShaping

Now that I looked though your PB account, I can say: I just finished the EXACT same resto!!! Al lthe same parts fabbed/purchased for the cab: lower hinge panels, kick panels, floors, lower rear corners, etc. The one I did just left my shop, after over 175 hours of work! You've likely seen it: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...storation.html
Yours is looking good. Cool to see another person that doesn't live in Arizona where they have rust-free shells!! But then again - they don't get much metal shaping practice down there!:-innocent Love the fume exhaust system too - inventive and effective I'll bet. Soon you'll be done too - and you'll be so glad you did it!:-dancing1 |
what a differance a day and a half of non stop no interuption work can make. I had yesterday and today off of work so i could work on my truck. Yesterday afternoon i got the outer skin on the pasenger door. Today i ground the weld on the skin and filled in a few screw holes on both doors. I had two cracks in the passenger fender that i welded up.
Then it was on to the rust free california radiator suport. I think the guy on ebay missed a few holes. They were small so i cut out the bad and welded in some new metal and its as good as new now. I also drilled some drain holes in the bottom. I then started on the inner fenders. The pasenger side needed a little hammer and dolly work and a tear welded up along with some cracks. I also discoverd some rust on the top that required a patch. I finished that one and started on the drivers side. I welded up a tear and i ran out of time to make a patch for the top. I will have to start there this weekend. I was so busy working i didnt get any pictures so i will have to do that soon. I am just glad i got as much done as i did. May have to take more time offf again soon to get some more work done. |
Glad to see you're back at it!
