I have a 1963 E-100 Econoline Truck. My In line 6 cylinder started knocking, I can't find a motor here in Oklahoma...What do I have to do to put a 302 V8 Engine in it? Already have a c4 automatic transmission in it now.

The doghouse will need to be modified, which requires modifying the seat mounts.

You don't need to find a econo straight 6 any small 6 from a 144-200 will drop right in on the current motor mounts even. look for falcons,mavericks,fairlanes, plus other fords that had these engines. I had a 65 with a 70's 200 from a maverick. I would also consider when jumping to a 302 that you consider all the space you have to work on your engine is eaten up by the size of the 302 or at least thats what it looked like to me from the pics i've seen.

300 In line 6's are still available from the engine builders.

That 300 will push an Econoline as fast as anyone who is sane will want to go.

The 70's engine do not quite fit perfect. I put a 200 from a 70 Maverick in my truck. I had to relocate the motor mount on one side. Meaning I had to drill another hole on the mounting frame. That not a biggy. The hassle came for mounting a tranny to it. The transmission bolts holes were in a different location, so I had to change bell housings. I never got it back up and running. Personal matter arose.
I have articles on putting in a V8. You have to do some modifications to the doghouse on the rightside and it involves some floor cutting. The seat brackets I'm not sure of.
If you put a V8 look for a old 289 or 260 ford engine from the old Falcons, Comets Fairlanes. They may not need any modifications, because they are smaller than the 302 engine. They fit nice and snug in their old cars.

The 200 is slightly longer than the 144 or 170. Not a probelm in most Ford cars.

There are a lot of old Falcons around with good 170 blocks. Look for a 1965, because it came with the C-4.

I know of a 67 extended van in Wichita that has a running 240/C-4 that can be bought for $900. That big 6 is just as good as an early 289 HP/Torque wise.

Stay away from the 260 V-8. They have cooling issues, even when new. Once you bore them out, they are very prone to overheating. Around here, most people sell the blocks for scrap rather than rebuilding.

170/C4:

1965 Mustang.

1965/70 Falcon.

1970/72 Maverick/Comet.

170's will also be found in 1966/72 Bronco's, 1962/64 Fairlane's.

The 5th digit of the passenger car's VIN is the engine code: U = 170.

260/289/302 are all the same size externally.

There are two different 289 blocks. The early 289's (& 221/260's) have 5 flywheel mounting holes.

The later 289's (after 8/23/1964) have 6 flywheel mounting holes.
