1984 Could anyone direct me to a 1984' VIN ID site? I tried one web site, but the numbers didn't match well with mine. Isn't there a way to connect with Ford's own vin id center?

This is Ford's decoder, but it may not work on anything older than '95:

I just happen to have a set of 84 manuals, so, here goes:

This is not right, the 370 is a big truck engine, and, H is a heavy truck engine code, not a light.

Actually, the 370 was available in these trucks- it looks just like a 460, no external differences aside from a 2BBL carb. If you think you have a 460 2BBL, you have a 370 ( :-X13 )
These are the most underpowered dog engines out there. In a big truck, I would rather have a 300-6. I drove a 12,900lb. F-600 a while back, loaded to gvw (actually 13,100lb!) and it would not do highway speed. Barely even do 45, and even then it would die on the hills. I mean about 25-26mph.

Thanks to all for your replies and information. I've only been on this site for a few weeks but am grateful to all the help and good discussions.
I got my 84' last summer from someone who had it sitting for 4 years and only put 65 miles on it. The truck has 43,000 mls on it now and is original with a "351HO" stamp on the air cleaner.
The truck is in pretty good running order except for the nagging, what seems to be, carburator problems. Runs great once warm, but a challenge to get going in the cold. The carb seems to be getting too much fuel, as someone mentioned in an e-mail a week or so ago said. I did replace the electronic choke. I think it needs a new or re-built carb, but I've got to save up for that.

Ok, that explains it, the 351W HO was a mid year change, and my manuals were printed in Sept. 83......
As for the carb, stock on a 351W HO is a 600 FM 4180 Holley vac. secondary 4bbl.... I'd offer tuning advice, but, I've never had any luck with 'em... I replaced the one on my 460 with an Edelbrock....

Ford_Six: That's what I meant by it being a heavy truck engine, I should have written medium/heavy truck engine, as the F/B/C 600 are all medium duty. The 460 wasn't offered in heavy truck trim, only the 370 and 429, with both being avalable in 2bbl and 4bbl trim....

Would it be hard to switch from the current/original Holley to another brand with my current intake manifold set up? Someone also said it may be better to start with a new carb and not a re-built one.

Any square bore 4bbl carb will bolt to the manifold. I went from Holley to Edelbrock on my 460, and, it only needed a new, longer fuel line, the carb came with the proper ball stud for the thottle, and hooked right up to the linkage without any modifications.
