Went from this,

Now I know why the frame and exhaust are that shape...

To this in an hour and a half. Felt much longer though.

Bonus points for the eagle eyed!

I changed out the thermostat today and solved all these problems for twenty bucks and a six pack. The working part was done before the end of the first quarter of the Packers/Cowboys game. By the end of that sweet fight, no more carbon juice, temp gauge is centered with a 190 deg tstat, the heater rocks, and a noticeably smoother idle. The ride home involved a freeway run and the throttle response is way better in all aspects, including uphill (which had been dropping off as ambient temps had been dropping).

Big win for the new kid.

Good job with the thermostat! My brown truck had the same symptoms, and I replaced the FUBAR thermostat, and it was like a completely different truck

What did you use to reinforce them on the back side?

I used rivet nuts and it feels pretty snug if it bends anything I will put a plate behind it.

Today I changed out my speedometer driven gear. The truck has a three-speed manual with a 3.00:1 rear end, but someone put 235/75/15s on there, and I think they are taller than what Henry first put on it 40 years ago.
I'd had the gear out when I first got the truck, and was ferreting out the cause of my non-working speedo. (Disconnected at the head.) When I had it out, I saw that it was an off-white color, so I assumed it was the same as the one I saved from my old '92 Mustang GT.
I had one other extra driven gear, so today I went ahead and pulled the cable out of the trans, and removed the gear. The truck's gear is more of a tan color and has 19 teeth. The gear from the Mustang has 18 teeth and they are pitched in the correct direction, so I figured it was at least a step in the right direction. It is an off-white color too. Side by side, the one of them looked yellow compared to the other. I made sure the teeth were facing the same direction and put it on the cable and into the trans, and went for a short drive., Now my speedo seems much more accurate. It registered about 8 MPH slow before, but now seems to read slightly fast. I'll have a better idea of its accuracy when I drive it farther, and on the highway.

Started ol red and let it idle for a while and then did a couple throttle blips and enjoyed the headers with header glass packs...

Very nice! We must have had a similar idea in mind.

Ok let me see if I can even get close on what RC and I accomplished today on Bullet...

Heater and radio brackets installed with radio and heater. (Heater hooked up)
Old fuel lines ripped out
Bumper all tightened down (rear)
Front bumper tightened down
Light and windshield wiper switches in
Bunch of brackets torched off
Torched off two bad rear shocks
Took a worthless step off
Grommet on valve cover
New heater hoses installed

RC spent some time figuring out wiring for a newer dash cluster... Not me lol

Pulled the hood and replaced the missing captive nuts. Reinstalled and aligned the hood

I've been out and at least playing with Ka'Bluey this last couple of weeks.:o
He's not too far from another truck ride himself, well in the next few months anyway.
We're moving back home to Southern Missouri this spring/summer, so he's getting transported again back to the same friends Alan, and Tiff to be truck sat until we get back home.:-X03
Then with the great group that we have in Missouri, I'm hopeful that he'll have some new blue paint on him, inside and out in the next year:-X22
Unk Bob:-wink

Kicked the fender and about 5 pounds of salty mud hit the ground. Damn CT winter roads and their stupid salt.

Drove my 79 to work and daydreamt about how I want to build my 2 78's and 75.

Djstright 01-26-2017 08:22 PM

Well I got the flywheel back from the machine shop and ordered a ton of new parts including a new heavy duty clutch and water pump. Now the entire cooling system will be new. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0f5ff1a658.jpg
