I see you had body shims or large washers on the front cross member between the bed and the frame. We're there anymore and if so, what was their location? It looks as if there may have been some on the 3rd cross member also.

I'm trying to figure out where my 2 extra ones go. I know about the front ones but not the others.

Thanks.

I *think* I finally got the hydraulic clutch setup working for my M5OD R2 swap. It was a ton of difficult measurements and a lot of trial and error, but the master cylinder is mounted and the firewall is reinforced with a piece of 1/8" steel and I fabricated a new clutch arm that seems to be quite solid. Only problem is that the first half of the pedal stroke doesn't do squat, and the second half does. I think that the system needs to be bled. That's for another day though.

The only two shims were on the front crossmember

Got some gunk cleaned out of the carb and fuel filter. Was told I probably need to drop my tanks and have them cleaned (joy). Truck runs much better now just with that little bit, tho. Says my fuel pressure is a bit low too. I have a replacement pump already, but the description of how to install it is slightly intimidating us. Don't wanna screw it up.

Katz, do you have an electric fuel pump or a mechanical one?

Mechanical.

A mech pump shouldn't be tough at all to change. Two bolts and a gasket, hook the hoses up, and you're rockin.

What Have YOU Done To Your Truck Today?

Yeah. Seems really simple, but the instructions mention having engine at TDC, and putting the lever on the correct side of the cam lobe.

If it were me I would probably just remove the old pump and try to slide the new one in the same way, but since my husband is doing the work he's worried about it. And I'm not sure what to tell him

instructions we don't need no stinking instructions.... all kidding i thing the tdc thing is more to make it easier to install so you're not compressing the spring by hand. it's more tedious than difficult. when i did mine i just swapped parts didn't worry about the instructions at all, seems to be working fine so far

belshe92 04-06-2016 09:46 PM

and in terms of what i did to my truck today, i almost got my front end rebuild completed but then as with so many things on this project one tiny little part brought it all to a screeching halt...

Yes TDC is to make the eccentric cam lob not press on the fuel pump arm. Skip the TDC part, just remove the old one, and come time to install the new just have the arm aimed lower than the pump when it goes in. And then start the top bolt and then if there is tension pull down on the pump body and start the bottom bolt.

Look at these pics, see the arm? As long as the arm is way lower than the pump body install time, you will be ok.

what PSI should my mechanical pump be generating?

77&79F250 04-07-2016 07:09 AM

5.5 to 6.5..
