I got new tires today. this last weekend I replace the tie rod. and now I am here looking for information on the power assist. and manual steering box.

The power assist steering is a pain in the butt.. It's expensive to keep working properly, is a leak-prone morphodite P.O.S. system that the designer needs kicked in the nads for.. My truck has it, and it's given me lots of problems. My truck doesn't even get driven much, at all.. Maybe 100 miles last year... If I had the money, I would be converting to integral power steering.

Currently in the process of getting concrete poured and a place to work built..

Good Day!

Good day of productive work on the old girl. Added power brakes, changed over to clutch fan, and adjusted the steering box a little. Drives like a dream. :-jammin

Installed a power brake booster, master cylinder and brake pedal with parts picked up from a JY. Used the booster and MC as core for new setup. Works awesome! Wish I'd done that months ago.

Changed the old direct fan over to clutch fan. I can't believe how much quieter it is. The wife and I went on a nice ride this evening. Much more enjoyable.

Cleaned surface rust off my roof and above my windshield. Installed new carpet, kick panels, door panels, dash bezel, and digital AM clock radio (still have to hook it up). Ordered Fresno Cloth for my seats from SMS Auto. Here are some pics:

They fit perfectly under the bumper and look factory!

Nice job, what year of "modern" F150 did they come off of?

One of them super-toyota looking ones... 2010-ish maybe. I saw these same or similar mounts on a ford exploder, but not sure of the year on it.

it don't leak. it was work and now it is not. I am wondering if the pump is working. someone put power steering fluid in it.

I did a full transmission fluid change: drain pan and filter and torque converter.

Those three bolts, especially the middle one, on the rear of the pan are a real pita to access.

And finding the torque converter drain plug is harder than finding the little man in the boat.

Also, the made in China Motorcraft filter did not have a well (not sure if this is the term for the short tube that draws filtered fluid from the pan), nor could I fit the old one to it. So I had to clean and re-use the old filter. Maybe I got the wrong part?

Took the wife out for a putt in the Old-Man. Then I replace the original rear view mirror with a new one from LMC, not the actual OEM Ford Mirror, did not have the $70.00 for that one, so I got the made in Taiwan replacement mirror, it will have to do for now. Then I replaced the POS Chrome Go Faster air cleaner that the PO installed with an original Air Cleaner and new air filter. Connected some vacuum lines that the PO had disconnected when he installed the aftermarket air cleaner. It is amazing how the old trucks run when their vacuum lines are connected.

Jeremy, by looking at your sig, we are on the same paths. my weather strips are ready to go in once I replace these floor pans.

Nice. Yeah, the new weather stripping makes a world of difference! Only problem is now I can hear all the other noises :p I seem to have a lot of cab noise, but there's really no sound barrier insulation of any sort in this thing. There was some in the firewall, but It's mostly gone. I see that I can buy some, but I'm not sure of its quality and how much it would actually improve things. Anyone have any experience with installing any of that? I mean, on the new cars it seems to be simply 2 thin pieces of foil with foam in between. I could find some of that and put it in the engine compartment. That would probably help with some noise, but I think a lot is just road noise. I also can now hear a couple exhaust leaks I think. They're small, but I can see where some carbon is on the pipes, so my U bolt clamps didn't hold the best. Thinking I'll just borrow a buddies Oxy-acetylene torch and braise it up. I am always looking at buying a torch, but I can't really justify the cost because I don't use it that much.

Also, I am now in the process of replacing my oil pan gasket. It was weeping pretty bad, so I dropped the pan, but I can't pull it out. Further research shows the engine's got to be lifted up. Well, that means I got to rig something up in my garage rafters with a block and tackle. It'll work out, it's just annoying that it can't be easy.... But then again, I should have learned that nothing will be easy on this thing by now :p.

Sounds scary. Have you tried using a floor jack on the front end of the frame? You can lift until axle and frame have more space between them if it is 4x4. I was able to do this and it allowed just enough room to get the pan out on my truck when I had the 351m.

Hey, ya. I don't think it will be too bad. I'm going to lay a 2x6 out to spread the weight over at least 4 of the rafters. They're strong enough, and I figure I just need to lift it 2 or 3 inches. And I wish I could do that, but I have a 2x4 and there's a cross member in the way.
