Truck won't go into park HELP!!!!

I tried to put the truck in park and it wouldn't go. All of the other gears work fine but when I put it in park it's actually in reverse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the shifter cable is somehow out of adjustment. might be as simple as an adjustment or the bracket by the tranny is bent. never run into that problem before. you can pop the cable off the tranny lever to make sure it is a cable problem and not an internal trans problem, make sure the truck isnt running and the wheels are chocked before attempting anything though

Does the gearshift move "normal?" One common failure is for the fasteners up top to loosen.

Check that everything is tight down on the transmission. If that's OK then I'd suspect a worn out cable. Cables wearing out are common too.

I've had the cable ice up bad enough not allowing it to go back into park before...

Turn off the ign. (motor)
Just turn on the ign far enough to unlock
the wheel but not turn on cluster lamps.
See if it will go in park.
Could be a problem in the saftey system.
(brake lamp system, lockout solen)

Could also be the bracket under the dash with those torx screws are very loose! stick your head under the dash and wiggle the shifter. There is a bracket that bolts to the shifter tube and the other end has the shift cable on it. There are two torx loosen up over time. Put a ratchet on them to check them.

could also be the bushings in the column if your shifter is sloppy. there are 2 bushings in there IIRC

I've done this with some success, though my selector wasn't as far off as yours:

1. From inside the vehicle, place the gearshift lever (7210) in the DRIVE position (C6) or the OVERDRIVE position (4R70W and E4OD). Hang a three-pound weight on the gearshift lever.

2. Raise vehicle on a hoist and position suitable safety stands under vehicle.

3. Remove the shift cable from the transmission lever ball stud.

4. Pull down the lock tab on the shift cable body.
^^^^^^^^^ don't break it ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

5. Position the gearshift lever in the DRIVE position (C6) or the OVERDRIVE position (E4OD). This is three detents from the front-most lever position with the first position counting as one.

6. Connect the cable end fitting to the transmission lever ball stud.

7. Push up on the lock tab to lock the cable in the correctly adjusted position.

8. Remove safety stands and lower vehicle from hoist. Remove the three-pound weight from the gearshift lever.

9. CAUTION: Under no circumstances should the cable be adjusted in any position other than D (drive) for the C6 automatic transmission or (D) (overdrive) for the E4OD automatic transmission.

After making the adjustment, check for park engagement. Check the gearshift lever in all detent positions with the engine (6007) running to make sure correct detent/transmission actions. Readjust if necessary.

had the same problem spent the whole day watching all of the YouTube videos and reading all the forums didn't help me any finally I took the thing all the way apart found out the button on the shifter wasn't picking it up high enough to disengage shifter to go in or out of park it was a quick and easy fix if I'd only known but you just pop the button off loosen the screw up and then reattach the screw hope this helps the next guy that has the same problem where you don't spend his whole weekend working on a wife's truck like I did
