Scanner won't read codes
I need help getting my scanner to read the codes for my truck. It tells me that I need to check grounds and fuses. I checked the machine on my 03 Expesition, and it worked fine, so the problem is somewhere in my truck. What is the best place to start looking? I've checked all my fuses, and grounds, and everything looks okay. The truck is pretty original, even the radio is stock, so I don't believe any wires have been cut.
When I bought it the od light was blinking, but I had to replace a battery, and cable terminal, which somehow took care ot the light blinking. The tranny still takes off in 3rd gear, woks fine otherwise, so i was hoping I could find the problem with a scanner. BTW, this is my first PSD, and am totally impressed with everything about the truck. 300K miles, and both the truck and the motor run as good as new. My kids swear the backseat is more comfy than the Expedition. Only complaint so far is I need a covered mug for my coffee driving down my gravel driveway lol. |
welcome to fte! will it not read codes or is it saying communication error? if its a communucation error, check the cigg ligher fuse, the obd port and the cig lighter are on the same fuse. as for the blinking OD light, you will be seeing that again eventually. a blinking OD light means there is a tranny code/fault stored int he computer. and when you killed the juice to replace the battery it reset the computer. so when you do get to read the codes there will bve a KAM error code, its keep alive memory, meaning you lost power somewere(batterys). so dont worry about that. but if its starting out in 3d gear, good luck driving much longer, thats alot of slipping toget moving! lol might be a valve body issue.

I am manually shifting it, to take off in 1st in the meantime. Tranny works perfectly when I shift it manually. I read in another post possible a switch on the passenger side of the tranny might have a dirty connection. The weather is pretty crappy right now, so I won't be crawling under the truck today.
Lighter fuse is good, they all are. Thanks |
What year is your truck? The OBD2 port doesn't work at all on the 94 and on some of the 95's too. I've even run into 96's with standards in it that still had the old computer. Do you have the eec-4 connector under the hood?

Truck's a 97. No check engine lights and the engine runs perfectly. I do think I need to eliminate my cat, and or dp 'cause it feels lazy until 2k rpm, then hang on. Cat delete made a big difference on my 6.5 but the stupid thing would quit making boost just when things started to get interesting.

im having the same problem with my OBD plug trying to program it and the fuse that he was talking about just is the power but if it powering up your scanner than thats good but i dont know the deal with the OBD not communicating
