cutting off exhaust

i have a 93 f250, and i was wondering if i could make a difference in the sound by cutting off the exhaust afteer it comes out of the muffler, i know the best way to improve sound weould be to cut off infront of the catalytic converter, but that not an option my dad would kick my @$$. so i was wondering if this would work, and if i could run into any problemns if i did it

your just wasting your time imo, because the converters on these trucks are pretty restrictive and just cutting off your tailpipe is kind of dumb and it's not really gonna be any louder. It's just gonna sound like your exhaust rotted off.Even if you cut off the muffler and straight piped it,it would still be quiet.Just depends on what you wanna do and in your case how loud your dad will let you have it.

Don't hack up your exhaust.

Honestly bud...I have a 94 F250 with a 5.8....I didn't want to cut the cat off due to the "awesome" emissions here on Long Island NY. So I junked the muffler and did a "Y" after the cat and I have duals coming out on an angle behind the tires. Honestly when I am just driving there is no cab noise and there is just a nice rumble. But as soon as I get my foot into it from a stop you can def. hear it coming haha.

Just my .02 cents here

thanks yall, its not the loudness thats the problem its the damn emmisions, i was just wonderin if i could do domethin without buyin a glasspack or somethin, i think im just gonna get a glass pack

ri_truck_guy 01-31-2010 07:24 PM

What engine do you have?

tx fisherman 01-31-2010 09:57 PM

5.8, any suggestions on what glass pack and what size? lookin for one that sounds pretty sweet all the time

I personnally prefer Flowmaster 40s

TexasGuy001 02-01-2010 12:11 AM

I like Magnaflow. I will never own Flowmaster again. If you have both cats just Y it off the rear cat with duals and no muffler like 94WhiteF250 said. It sounds good. You could also put a glasspack in place of the muffler and that will sound pretty good too since you have the cats.

Just removing the tailpipe is a waste of time.

Where we can get Y pipe?

Idiot engineer thought best idea is put 2 pipes weld to flat steel then bolt to flat steel to cat.

I would like keep quiet because it can be really loud when on highway due rot muffler on my F250. You would get tired of listen loud exhaust if you drive daily and average 20k to 50k miles per years.

Bassani 58150B2/58150B3 y-pipes are designed for 5.8L Broncos. They both fit the F-series just fine. One comes with a converter, the other does not. I purchased the 'B2 version so I could install a converter of my choice on my '92 F350 w/5.8L engine. This y-pipe is for those who want a 3" exhaust.

For those looking for something that is more easily adaptable to a stock exhaust Magnaflow makes a direct fit line of converters that also include the y-pipe. The 5.8L version is part no. 93312.

Ok found 2 y pipes.

But guy who measure exhaust pipe on muffler and say it 2 1/4"

I bought new stock muffler but they are 2 1/4 which is 2.5 so I want make sure I get correct y pipe.

But you say it 3" ??

A cheaper way would be to just cut the muffler out and replace that section from the cat to the tailpipe with a piece of pipe. This is cheap and will make it sound good and it keeeps the noise away from the cab. Personally i wouldn't put a glasspack in unless you wanted it to be fairly quiet. The cat will keep it quiet enough.

The stock exhaust pipe size from the converter back to the muffler on a F-series with a 5.8L is 2.25" or 2-1/4 inch. Same dimension, different scale.
