351M/C6 Rebuild in North Alabama/Huntsville

Hey y'all,

I've got a '79 F-150, and have finally gotten to the point of wanting/needing to rebuild (or replace?) the drivetrain on my truck.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a engine and transmission builder in the Huntsville/North Alabama area?

I'm looking to keep this as a daily driver, but beef it up quite a bit. I'm considering asking Tim Meyer to build a 434 Stroker for me and then swap it out when it gets here, unless there's someone just as good here!

Thanks!

Justin

I'm had my engine work done at Performance Specialties Inc (205-841-7790) in Birmingham. The owners names are Rick Pennington and Al Moore. They did an excellent job for me. They do all the machining, balancing and dyno work in house. My engine was a 351M and we used Tmeyer's 400 pistons, .030 overbore with a 400 crank to get 408c.i.. We used an Edelbrock 400 intake, Comp 255deh cam and a 600cfm carb with headers and it dyno'd at 339hp@4300 and 478ft/lbs@2900. Obviously this is a mild build compared to a stroker 434, but was a huge difference in original form. I know it would be little bit out of the way from Hunstville area.
My transmission work was done by Performance Torque Converters (www.ptcrace.com) in Muscle Shoals (256-383-6868). They do a professional job and after rebuild they dyno your transmission to make sure the pressures and shift points are correct.
I hope this helps you some.

That's good info...thanks! I'll definitely look up PTC for my C6. I've just got to figure out how heavy I want to go on the engine rebuild/replace. Your route sounds awesome! I'm a little wary of the lack of Huntsville-specific recommendations for engine builders, both from FTE and folks I've asked about in person. Fultondale may not be too far of a reach. Thanks again!

You're welcome. Good luck with your build.
Just a suggestion, try asking the folks at PTC for reliable engine builders in your area. They deal with alot of the racers and they should be able to get some leads.
