Auxillary Transmission between BellHousing,and Trans.

Has anyone here heard or has installed a auxillary transmission to there NP435 or T18/19?I have a 460/NP435/NP205 in my 1979 F-350 Supercab dually 4x4,and ive found myself doing alot of highway driving, and man I NEED a fith gear bad!!!I was on Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and ran across the Ranger Torque Splitter For 1971-87 4-Speeds ,and liked the price due to the fixed incom im on.Well I went to a local truck shoe/swap meet, and found a unit called double trouble, and it's the same thing as what JBG has but instead of manually shifting it my unit has a Eaton electric shift motor on it so it's shifted with a switch. It say's it will give me up to 28% overdrive.Has anyone here messed with these at all or know anything about them?

Knew a guy back in college that had a ranger gear splitter between his bell housing and his transmission. He had an electric motor on it to shift it and was controlled by a push/pull switch on his shifter (madmax style). Had it behind a 6.5 chevy diesel in an old Kaiser.

Next to my old stang.

Probably the same info you have already. Note their comments about noise and cost difference compared to a NV4500 conversion. Note you have to move everything back 7 1/2", which will mean two new DS.

Ranger Overdrive

I had brandnew diveshaft's made when I built truck, and the guy who built them is willing to shorten the one,and make front shaft longer for a super low cast becuase he made the shaft's.Mine isn't a Ranger Overdrive, mine is a Double Trouble 2XT.The only differance is mine is electricly shifted, and the Ranger is a shifter lever.

Do you have a link or company name of who makes and sells that?

Searching "double trouble..." leads to all kinds of non-transmission stuff...

Thanks

Looks like it is made by "PAT PENDING" ...

Did a little research. The unit is a Double TORQUE 2xt. Seens likely it was made by Power Torque Industries Inc. of Texas. Can`t find anything on that company though.

That's who made it,Power Torque Industreis inc. In Texas. They are nolonger at there adress that's on install instruction's.I found a ad in Popular Mechanics magizine jan.1984 issue. But all that's all it say's.All the newer unit's like the Ranger Overdrive are made in a cast aluminum case, and my Double Trouble is cast iron cased. All the newer unit's are manual shifted, and mine is shifted with a electric motor.Just like a 2 speed rear end.Im in the process of installing now,and will post pic.'s as I go.

The double torque 2xt has not been manufactured since sometime in 84. Power Torque Industries applied for a patient in 82 and then took no further action. The name is up for grabs at this time.

Only name close is Power Torque Inc but they don't make automotive aux trannies.

Good man. Keep `em coming.

I had to cut that bearing retainer to make it so it would fit into the back of the 2XT double trouble. It say's so for correct fit.I have it installed back into truck.I just ran out of battery for the camera. The shift motor for unit fit's under floor perfect with no modifacation's to floor needed.More pic.'s to come.Like my idea of the perfect transmision jack?Work's great, and make it's easy to line back up going back in truck with transmision, plus no jack to have to work around under the truck.

I did notice the crane. Wondered what navy yard it came from!
