how much should an EGR delete cost?
Installing an RCD Complete EGR delete, which runs for 359.99, i know a local diesel mechanic who will buy and install the full delete for 1500, is this a good price?
HAPPY NEW YEAR |
Um....
Here are the issues: A) will you ever get a smog check? B) what is the local rate for diesel mechanics in your area C) Do you need a full delete or can a stealth delete do the job? |
Full is the way to go personally, he's a great mechanic, regularly does head stud jobs, egr deletes, and head gaskets, just wondering if 1500 is a good price, he also fixing some bad leaking o-rings under the turbo at the same time for a couple more dollars

no smog check, i live in florida

By full delete, do you mean welding the intake? Like FCDP? You can buy a full delete (Kit) from ebay sellers at reduced cost...some as low as $200. I'd buy the (Kit), pull the intake hot-wash it, rebuild the oil cooler, new intake gaskets and turbo seal/gaskets and do both the CCV filter (keep dirty air out of freshly cleaned intake and turbo) and coolant bypass (keep that freshly rebuilt oil cooler from getting clogged up). Is your mechanic going to include replacing your up-pipe with a solid one? Gets rid of the restrictive scoop.

That is over a thousand bucks for less than a days labor!

What year is the truck? The early motor is an hour or so more work to install the kit.I think something around 5 bills labor on the 03/04 is fair if it is only getting the kit put in.

I am corn-fused(sic) , if you are talking about that F350 in your sig, you need not worry about egrs and up pipes. If you are talking about a 6.0L ,state year model, they differ somewhat.

Lake....
$20 for a piece of metal for a stealth delete that you can put on yourself.... $1480 and taxes in your pocket. |

Sounds like he's talking about adding a delete (Kit)...you can have him do it or you can do it yourself. If he does it I wouldn't pay him anything more than $75 hour...or $500 max. I purchased a kit from Sinister or MKM off ebay for $250 (includes everything in Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - MoyockPowerstroke's Album: Sinister Diesel Full EGR Delete kit)... I also picked up an intake gasket kit $40, Turbo reconditioning kit $15, Oil cooler overhaul kit $160. I will do all the work myself in the Spring where here it will be a balmy 70*F in my driveway. My two garages aren't big enough. I will send the intake out for hot-washing at a local engine shop for $30...and let everyone know how things went (with pics).

First things first. your milage is ok ,when was it put in service. If it has not been in service for 5 years, you might rethink doing a delete before warranty expires.
