OT- what could I use a Detroit 6v92 for? Taking suggestions!
I put an ad on Craigslist to see if anyone has a cheap old Detroit 2-strok for sale, and some guy told me he has 2 6v92's he's willing to let got for $500 a piece. I really love Detroits, but if I'm correct, I read somewhere this engine weighs about 3400 lbs, and beside that being too much to carry in my bed (or is it hmmm) what the hell can I put it in? Is there a way to beef up the front end of a light duty pickup to support this much weight? The price is definitely right, but I don't need a boat anchor just rusting in the back yard....

Ha Ha Boat Anchor is best. Really It is a well sought after marine engine here in south east Alaska and works well to weigh in the keel. We use them mostly in power skiffs for purse seining. Pull the shims in the governor and let her scream. Screaming Jimmys.
as for on land maybe replace a 3208 in a compactor. Although we have a fleet of cement trucks running them here. Good luck |

I saw a fella in Los Angeles many years back that had dropped a 3-53 in a Chevy 4x4 for his runs deep into Mexico. He had a 5 and a 3 stick on it and in low low low wide open it was about as fast as one legged man without his cane. He claimed about 130 top end and had a 150 gallon fuel tank in the bed so he wouldn't have to buy that nasty Pemex. Had a cute stack up the side before anyone knew what that was. The thing sounded awesome and I was hard pressed not to buy it.

IIRC they were used as a rear engine in a trex ts-24b scraper also.

I love that ear splitting sound LOL!! I found out the damn thing weighs between 3100- 3400 pounds depending on ancilliary attachments (OTR or marinized) so I think I might have to pass this big block o' iron up. Any of the other 6v's are manageble, but this thing would snap my engine stand like a twig!
