Fuel Pressure Regulator
I am 96% sure my intermittant starting problem is the fuel pressure regulator.
Who can tell me where in the @** is it? I have followed the fuel lines but I am not finding it. Kwreat can you bail me out again? |
I believe it's on the fuel rail, not exactly sure where.
I've been busy for the holidays, sorry I didn't reply sooner. |
I have a diagram showing where it is but I do not have permission for attachments.

Whish you did, good info to have.

Thanks for the response after helping kids put Santa away looky here my Haynes manual for truck "dad I thought it was a coloring book" any way
It is only on trucks up 2004 and as a present to us V 10 owners they put this $40:00 part under the throttle body, Yes in order to replace it remove air cleaner assembly, remove splash guard, remove cruise linkage, accelerator linkage, and remove Throttle Body. All that to get to a known problem part Now do I want have to do this myself? |
Change it yet? Any tips? I cant see it on mine, nor do I see fuel lines in that area?

here is a photo of the location this is back behind the intake off to the passengers side, nothing to remove to replace it,just find the red vacuum line that leads right to the reg. |
Yep, I found mine yesterday. Im still scratching my head on how to change it though. How to get to it? It has a fuel line to it that I cant see getting at (or see at all) without some moving some stuff.
|
yeah it is tight back there, but it can be done without removing anything(or atleast I did not remove anything)there is no fuel line to disconnect, the reg. just pushes down into the fuel rail and seals with a o-ring, unfortunately I don't remember exactly what holds the reg. into the fuel rail, im pretty sure it's held in by a snap ring but not 100% sure, it's been over a year since I replaced mine.
|
it looks like the two bolts hold it? This is a 5.4l pic for referance. should be the same?

Mine is a 99 and match's the one above. I know there were alot of differences in the 99's maybe this is one more. This is what the advance auto page pull's for mine...
Fuel Pressure Regulator by BWD - Part 22856 - Advance Auto Parts Was there a noticable difference when you changed it out? Mine seems to drop in power after 3500 rpm's, never even had it past 4k and I hear this motor really opens up after 2300???? Not my experience. 2300 to 3200 is great but thats it, above and below that the fuel mileage isnt worth the power output. |
I put my 01 info and 00 info in on the advance site and it comes up that part won't fit those trucks so apperently the 99 is different(good to know)I did not notice any performance difference after replacing mine but I was not having any issues either I just replaced it as a maintanence item.yeah something sounds amiss there with your truck because mine pulls hard all the way through the rpms and the 99 I owned was the same.have you had a fuel press. gauge on it while driving it up over 3200 rpms to see if the press. is falling of at all.

Not my experience. 2300 to 3200 is great but thats it, above and below that the fuel mileage isnt worth the power output. |
I see. I looked over the dyno sheets and that helps but it really just doesnt feel like I would think it should. At 3200-3300rpm its like the fuel is cutoff. Im going to put a fuel pressure tester on it and see what I find. Is there any other componants in the system (that could be problematic) other than the pump, and regulator? Im tired of working on this thing, spent colose to 2k and countless hours on it in the first 2 months after puschase.
