My Junk - Build Thread

I figure I might as well put together a build thread so I'm not hijacking other peoples threads with my stuff... LOL

I'll start at the beginning with the big truck,
This was 1998:
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/F1001.jpg

Bone stock, 300, overdrive 4 speed, 2wd. Got it from my uncle with a blown up 300, and a transmission with no 3rd gear... Did an engine swap and stuck in a NP435. Eventually it ended up as a bare frame...
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/F100-03-02right.jpg

Yes, that is a header on the 300, it had lots of headwork, cam, 9.5:1, etc...
Come 2002, the truck was wearing a flatdeck, I'd moved halfway across the country, the 300 was starting to rattle again, and I stumbled across a rolled 86 F250 with a re-built 460:

http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/f250/rightrear.jpg

Being 18, I figured a 460 was a great idea for a daily driver... LOL

This happened to make the cab fit:

I REALLY miss having this shop to work in:
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/f...p/IMG_0017.jpg

Completed, and for all intents and purposes, stock other than a carb:
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/f...e/80grille.jpg
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/f...t03/rtrear.jpg

I DD'd it for about 2 years, and the it languished in the back yard for 3 years.
In 07, I did a cam swap, intake, installed the headers I'd bought in 04, tossed a body lift under the cab as I had just enough pucks to do the cab, hacked the box up some, welded up the rear, stuck some 9.00R1 XL's on it, and took it racing.

After that, I built a much needed e-fan setup:
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/f...s/460fans4.jpg
Added an exhaust system to the mix(nothing fancy, 2.5" duals and glasspacks) and scored some 35's for it:

Took it racing again, and hurt the engine:
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/f...psalaposin.jpg

Ripped it apart and re-freshed the engine over the winter:

The following spring, well, this picture says alot:
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/f250/june08/d60.jpg
Yes, it's a BJ 60, but, it was cheaper than the parts to complete the KP one I have, and it had fresh 4.10's.

Still TTB springs in the front, so no travel at all...

But I wheeled it all summer, and, yet again, hurt the engine, last trail ride it had no oil pressure and I couldn't keep the dipstick in it, but, it lived...

This past summer, I built a "new" engine in the spring, and got it installed, and started working on the front suspension. But, work and women got in the way... LOL

I finally got back to working on it last weekend.
Current specs are:
Mild 460, 97 bottom end, E6 heads, somewhere around 9.2:1 if memory serves. Smallest Comp Extreme 4x4 grind, Performer RPM, 750 Edelbrock, headers.... Nothing too fancy or expensive other than a MSD Digital 6 controlling the ignition.
Drivetrain is T19/1345/60/10.25, 4.10 gears, still welded rear, open front. Tires are 38.5x11's.
Suspension is shackle reversal and S/D spring swap in the front, rear is some very worn out stock springs with a 3" AAL so it sits at stock height currently, going to get a shackle flip with the front rear spring bracket to level the truck back out.
This big heavy contraption needs to be re-hashed alot, and may not be used, but that's a Warn 8200 hiding under the gas can cover(Previous owner... LOL)

I'll get some current pictures of the disaster come the weekend.
I'm debating taking another 16" out of the wheelbase and making it a Flareside again...

captain p4 12-16-2009 05:47 PM

Cool build mang. Maybe I missed it, but what happened to the flareside bed? Or did you just switch out for more utility?

Sweet frame flex :D

kjett 12-16-2009 08:20 PM

Yeah, I was wondering about the flareside bed. I've had a thing for the early/mid 80's flareside beds and have been thinking about putting one on my 95. They just bring the cool factor.

82F100SWB 12-16-2009 09:24 PM

The original one succumbed a death of too much rust and lack of skill to repair it.... The diesel F250 in my sig started life as another F100 Flare and I still have it's bed kicking around... it will probably be going on the truck.

Prozon 12-16-2009 10:31 PM

Looks like a fun build. So what are your plans?

82F100SWB 12-16-2009 11:33 PM

Plans are to stay street legal. The current suspension re-hash will probably be good for this season, but I do have a set of 64" Chevys laying around that might end up in the rear.
Immediate plans are to get it back to a driveable state, so that means finish up the shackle reversal/SD spring swap, size up some shocks, probably build an anti wrap bar for the rear, all kinds of little stuff.
Long term, the next set of tires will be 44's, I'm probably going to do a C6/doubler setup, and I'm seriously debating cutting it down to a short bed.
Winches need mounting, I plan on an ARB for the front, so on and soforth... Eventually I will be building a stroker for it too.

Prozon 12-17-2009 12:54 PM

What size will the stroker be?
Going stock C6 or built?
Do you already have teh ARB's and such?

Sounds like you've got some good plans. And keeping it street legal won't be too bad.

DanoFF50 12-17-2009 01:50 PM

You look like a man that could benefit from Fluid Film. It stops rust on contact.

crazyredneckanyhow 12-17-2009 05:08 PM

Im callin you on this fluid film. Ill be pming you my addy

Edit: Nice truck BTW. Ive seen it on pirate on occasion.

I'm still debating 4.3 or 4.5" stroke, I'm not planning on building it for about another year or so, saving for a good set of heads for it, probably Kasse P51's.
The C6 will be wide ratio, pretty built, but probably still with automatic function, not full manual. I have most of the stuff to put it together now.
Winches I have, have an 8200, 8274, and 2 M12k's at last count... LOL The 8274 is on a Warn bumper, 8200 is on that monstrosity of a home fabbed bumper, and the 2 12K's are loose. Probably going to put one of them under the tail of the truck.
As for the Flareside bed, I still have this kicking around:
http://www.bigblocksix.com/f100swb/8...05/remains.jpg

Yes, you do see a diamond plate aluminum bedliner hiding there.

Prozon 12-20-2009 12:27 AM

I've never seen a diamond plate bed lol.

Finally got some more work done and remembered to take my camera with me... LOL

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...9/IMG_0084.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...9/IMG_0085.jpg

Yes, the body is all goofy, front clip isn't lined up, there are body mount issues, and the cab is actually crooked on the chassis, turns out I have 2 broken cab mount bolts, the axle is square to the frame, the body, not so much... The drivers side looks even worse because the box is pretty twisted and the front corner is pushed down on that side...

But, it runs and drives, Sunday was the first time since July that it moved under it's own power. That involved changing the flywheel, trans and t-case this weekend, and it was the first drive with the new engine... I Stuck a close ratio T19 in there, the 4.02:1 first is a little tall, but the close gear spacing is nice.
There is still a good bit of fab to do on the spring hangar, needs gusseting and I am going to box the front of the frame in. I need to get some more 3.5" box to re-fab the spring mounts too, the boltholes are too high to work properly with the S/D springs, a buddy of mine fabbed it up to work with rears in the front of his F150. Ride height is far from finalized, I need to get the winch hanging off of it. I'm thinking I may need a zero rate to push the axle ahead a bit, but, I need to get the cab straight on the frame first.
Also got my brackets for my rear discs and installed one of them, ordered calipers, rotors and flex hoses today, so I should have that happening very soon.
I also have the fun task of changing the oilpan in the near future, the 97 pan moved the dipstick location ahead around an inch, and there is no way to get the tube straight into it thanks to my headers. Going to put the old pan on there with a flexible dipstick tube.
