3.5 years later

Hey guys and gals of the Oregon FTE chapter. I've not been on, as I'm sure you could tell, in a while. Been REALLY busy. We have our mediation conference on Thursday Dec. 03 from the car wreck that killed mom. It's been 3.5 years. It's finally within the last leg of the race, and hopefully, it can be settled, and closed Thursday. Haven't done much to the big rig, ast he weather, and finances make it hard to work on things that don't fit in the garage. If things go well enough, I'll be replacing the boat anchor CAT with a Cummins in the Big Job. Yeah, I yarded the top off the CAT, and I am NOT thrilled with the appearance of the inards. It's got scale, and rust everywhere. Too expensive to find good parts for the Cat. I can get a 12 valve Cummins for less than it would cost just to get heads, and gaskets for the CAT. Anyhow, I think things will start to slow down a bit, at least enough to get back to where I belong. Talk at you all soon, and will try and get on here more.....:-yeahrigh lol

welcome back hope all goes well for you

Great to have ya back in the chapter Joe. Your lucky it's only been 3.5 years. When my mom and dad where in their bad wreck it took 10 YEARS to get it settled................Hope it all comes out alright for you. Sorry to hear about the Big Job, I was hoping to see it on the road this year................Oh well there's always next summer! Don't be such a stranger around here!

bertha66 12-02-2009 03:32 PM

Welcome back on Joe.

Old93junk 12-04-2009 09:20 PM

Welcome back, Joe!................Where you been hiding?

wmjoe1953 12-05-2009 08:06 PM

Yup, I'm kinda back. Thanks all. Well, as you already know, Thursday, and Friday were our mediation days. Thursday, they settled dads personal injury claim at $500,000. After attorny costs, and fees, and such, dad will be able to move forward well with around $250K. They settled the wrongful death claim above Oregon's $500K cap, so it was a pretty good deal. They offered $660+K, or a court trial, at which point, we could of lost miserably. So, all and all, it wasn't as good a turn out as we hoped, but in the economic grand scheme of things, we did better then we probably should of. So, within a few months, it should all be distibuted, and we'll finally have our moments of closure.

fabmandelux 12-05-2009 08:20 PM

I'm glad it's finally settled for you and your dad Joe. No amount of money will bring back your mom, but at least your dad will be taken care of.

Good to have ya back in the chapter and posting again! After I get my panel up and running this winter I'm going to finally put together the 56 F600 I've been saving. It will get a 460/C6 with a Warn overdrive, and will be "bobtailed" to pull the 35' trailer I want to build next winter.

So many projects, so little time.................

wmjoe1953 12-05-2009 11:00 PM

I hear that. Weather is too cold to even really think about trucks right now, but perhaps in the spring, more progress will be made, and future plans will begin to unfold.

Yeah, too cold to do anything outside on trucks................Maybe by mid/ late March.

I was wondering what happened to you Joe. Good to see you posting once again, hadn't heard about the Cat going bad on you.

wmjoe1953 01-01-2010 03:02 PM

The Cat is rebuildable, but it's just not worth it. A Cummins 5.9 turbo, with a turned up pump, and bigger injectors is cheaper than trying to rebuild this anchor. Currently, I've got the truck on hold, due to the weather, and have a '63 Futura 2dr Sedan in the garage. It's getting a warmed over 5.0 roller motor with a T-5. I was going to run AOD, but the T-5 would be much better for the mods I want to do to the engine. I should be in the 400-450 HP range, and can run 3.73 gears to put it to the ground. Currently, I'm cutting out the bad left rear quarter panel, and doing some much needed appearance repairs.

fabmandelux 01-04-2010 10:49 AM

Did you ever figure out if the 48 in this thread is for sale, and how much?
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ml#post8106876

It would also help if you put your first name in your sig....................................

jalopy45 01-04-2010 12:04 PM

The chopped 48?? It's sitting at an auto wreckers just north of Goldendale WA about 10 miles on 97, the tow truck waa in Paisley OR and I don't know. Ghe chopped 48 was sitting on a Datsun PU Chassis. I'll put Gary somewhere in my signature.:-innocent

fabmandelux 01-04-2010 12:40 PM

The chopped 48 is the one I'm interested in. Don't care about the chassis. Did you take a closer look at the sheetmetal? Is it a butcher-job? Or done right? It looks like the hood was sectioned and maybe welded to the fenders............Maybe tilt front end?I know you travel a lot, if you ever get back that way again would you check it out a little closer for me...[hint!] I've got a lowered chassis just looking for a nice chopped 48 cab and fenders! Thanks Gary!

jalopy45 01-07-2010 07:36 AM

Looking at my notes the cab has been narrowed thru the center and there is a lot of bondo, my opinion is it's yard art,

fabmandelux 01-07-2010 08:33 AM

Oh well, maybe the next one....................Keep your eyes open for a set of complete 53-54 pickup doors will ya. I need a set for my panel project.

oldbrokecowboy 01-18-2010 09:40 AM

I saw the "yard" with all the parts in that post. If you can get a pair of 53-54 doors for a GOOD price I'm willing to buy them. I need COMPLETE doors. Thanks!
Don.
