Baby seats and extended cabs
 

Guys/Gals with the extended cabs...can a baby seat be properly installed in the back seat? I might be in the market for an F150 and I am leaning towards and extended cab rather than the crew cab...seems like the extended cabs have a bigger bed and I like that. I want to make sure that the baby seats will work in the extended cab's back seat.

If you have the room I don't see why not. However in my 2000 our rear facing seat didn't come close to fitting. The newer models might fit as they have a little more room though. You can get a crew cab with a 6.5ft bed starting in 06.

IMO extended cabs are worthless for seating. Even if the seat fits now, the kids will grow up and there won't be much room then.

I don't have first hand knowledge about the F150s but I can tell you that the extended cab on the super duty trucks are not big enough to comfortably fit a carseat in. I was in the same boat as you a few years back. Was looking at extended cabs until I test drove one with my little girl's carseat installed. She wasn't quite 2 at the time and she was kicking the center console. So I went with a CC.

The small beds on the supercrews turned me off as well, which is one reason I went with an F250 back then. They now offer a longer bed (6.5' I think?) on the supercrews so unless you need an 8' bed you might check that out.

My advice would be to test drive an extended cab F150 with the carseat installed and see what you think.

I have a 06 F-150 Super Cab (rear doors open backwards) and the regular car seats fit fine. All I've done is slide the seat forward a little at a time when my boy started kicking it. I did not have the truck when my little one faced to the rear but it looks like it would fit. My truck even has the latch system for the seats. Tim

a normal rear facing seat will fit the Scab in the center position only

sucks pretty badly after that though.


you can grab a Screw with the 6.5' bed. look at 06+ trucks. they are somewhat rare, but do exist

Car Seats
 

I have 2 SCabs, a 97 and a 07. We often have our granddaughter (will be 2 in January) along with her car seat in one or the other though most of the time it's in the 97. The car seat is forward facing and she likes the position right behind the center front armrest (for visibility I think) along with she likes to use the arm rests as a foot rest if the seats are positioned right. It's easier in the 97 as the arm rest moves with the passenger seat so it can be moved as close as necessary for her to be comfortable.

If in doubt, take your car seat along and try fitting it before buying.

The baby seat may fit but what do you do when baby grows bigger or a 2nd one tuns up will you by a new truck every 2 years or so or do you plan to keep it longer.

Yes, it will work. I have mine rear facing but it has to go in the center position. I cannot put my center armrest all the way up though, it won't quite lock. She goes forward facing in a couple of months, I think the seat will work in any position then, as it doesn't recline as far in the forward position. The back seat has 3 sets of latches for the seats. This is the main reason I sold my '02 and bought the '04.
