73-77 vs 78-79 grille. Which do you prefer.
 

I see this debate all over the site in various threads so I figure it would be interesting to create a poll just to see where everyone stands.
Just from what I have seen growing up it seemed like everyone swapped the 78/79 grille into the older trucks. I was so used to this, that I thought I was one of the only people who liked the older grille more. After hanging out here for while I see there are lots of people that share my opinion.
I was thinking of seperating the 73-75 from the 76-77 for the poll but the only difference is the insert so I'm calling them the same. I'm not creating seperate options for the 78/79s with round vs square lights vs tube grill etc either. The options are 73-77 or 78-79 in any variation available to those years. So which do you prefer?

I'll play. I love the 78/9 grille, but I have to explain a little. Even though your poll is designed to be simplistic, I must tell you that I prefer the straight bar grille, (73 to 75) due to the design and clean lines. I will use this grille before I install a 78 custom grille, or a grille with any other round healight design.
My preference is a chrome insert with chrome headlight doors, in a straight 78/9 shell.

love the 78-79. i think they just have a cleaner look to them.

Yes, 78-79 are cleaner looking, but the 73-75's are MEANER looking.

this poll is SLIGHTLY off balance, lets look at the choices each one has a vote for their yr...4 for 73-77 and the underdogs> the 78 and 79, only two votes...may the underdogs win:)!!
but in all fairness.... whatever grille as long as it is on a dentside:)
I am the impartial one... owning 8+ 78/79's and 1-77 that had a grille and the 74 which did not come w/ one, but the 77 buddied up w/ the rest of the 78/79 stable and stole a 78/79 grille for itself overnite..go figure.

???? can I pad the ballot to make the 78/79's win???..

Yeah I could have broke the 73-75 seperate from 76-77 but then I probably would have listed a 78 with round lights as a seperate option from the 78-79 with square lights.

I basically just wanted to make it split grille vs open (or whatever you call it) grille. lol. Instead of listing out every grille option. If it hadn't been for me reading this site over just the last few months I would have thought the 78-79 would have had double the votes of the 73-77.

I do have to say I'm quite surpised at the following the 73-75 has. They all look great really.

I have to say, I'll stick with the 73-77 grille because that's what has won my heart from the get go. Not to say I dont like the 78/79, I just think the 73-77 has a more "old/classic" and "intimidating" look to it.

Agreed. Although I'll change that to 73-75 as I'm not really a fan of the 76/77.



I am kind of sureprised that the 73-77 grill style is winning out in this deal. I sure thought there were a lot more square light lovers out there. Maybe I am just used to Ed (75F350) putting 78/79 grills on everything:-X18

1st grille I ever saw was my grandpa's 77 2wd pickup. I loved that truck....now i own a 77 4x4. I go with 73-77.

depends on the truck some look nice with the 78-79 but they all look sweet with 73-77

Definitely prefer the 73-77 grills, in fact just picked up an entire 75 assembly, less right side insert, this weekend and I could not be more excited to get it swapped out so I can throw up some before and after pics, after a little tlc of course!
